Heck, what happened to that fledgling? Was it caught in some kind of nylon wire? Moving to see parents taking care of this beautiful youngster. Let’s hope this little swallow recovers in time for the odyssey back to South Africa.
On a happier note, this year’s swallows, and swifts, are in greater abundance than in recent years. Can’t say the same for the martins up here in Alsop. Is there better news from Parwich regarding martins?
This little creature seems to have grown remarkably well despite its condition. In addition to the possible nylon wire, there appears to be the skeletal remains of another fledgling wrapped around the left leg (in the top-right photo) or at least one skeletal leg with 3 toes. Or is that just my imagination? It is certainly intriguing. I wonder whether the RSPB might be able to give some explanation to what may have happened to this little creature.
