The following snow warning has been issued from Buxton Weather Watch
Amber warning for heavy and disruptive snow still in affect for Buxton and the Peak District.
Scheduled to start Friday 29th morning between 3 and 5am currently. Rush hour could be challenging in the morning. 10 to 15cms expected.
Although there only seems to be a light covering of snow here in the Village, Buxton Weather Watch are reporting road closures on the higher routes:
“6.08am In the last 15 minutes the following roads have been closed by Derbyshire Police/Council
Cat and Fiddle
A53 Leek Road
Long Hill
Snake Pass
Holme Moss”
If you are out and about do let others know what road conditions to expect.
7.00 am
Snowing in the village
Road out of the village slippy in places
B5056 – enough lorries have gone along to cut a clear track
A515 wet slush
Sleet turning to rain in Ashbourne
A52 – Foggy/sleet at Swinscoe
10.30am With this additional snow over the last couple of hours Buxton Weather Watch are reporting you need to take care on the A6 around Taddington and on the A515 in their direction though both are still open.
PS Thank you to the Creamery Lane snow warden for promptly scattering grit on the compacted snow near me which had caused at least one driver to give up going up the hill.
A slight side-step from this post’s topic: I came across a reversing Waitrose van whilst I was walking up Monsdale Lane. He stopped and we briefly spoke. He looked forlorn and utterly fed-up trying to make his deliveries. It was clear that he had driven as far as the steep section at the end of Monsdale Lane, realising he wouldn’t be able to get up that last section. It may be helpful if we advise the drivers, given half-a-chance and when we have taken delivery of a parcel, what is likely the best route to their next destination with such road conditions as the current ones. I know he eventually made it out of the village as I passed him again near Wash Meadow!
