PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Not sure why it is but we do seem to start the bowls season with a bang. It could be something to do with the inclement weather, or the water, or just plain cussedness or maybe even, good bowling? Well what ever it is we have started well again.
Tuesday League.
Home – Chatsworth B – 24 April.
Having come unstuck at Chatsworth in the first match of the season by the slenderest of margins, how would we fair against another Chatsworth team. Judging by the result, not bad. Sue and Tony A are rapidly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the green. Not sure about the rest of what they do, but keep taking the bowls tablets. They got us off to a great start winning 21 – 6. It took Harry B and Dennis E a while to nail their win, but nail it they did 21 – 17. At one point they were 20 – 10 in the lead. Another pair rapidly becoming stars on the green are Dawn and Frances. They beat a really good pair 21 – 11. Finally, so much has been written and said about Parwich’s bowling legends Edith and Rick it seems only appropriate to say that they won 21 – 7. Now again children you budding mathematical geniuses will have already calculated that Parwich won by the maximum 84 – 41. This puts us second in the League. Watch us fall over next week when we have to travel to the arctic circle.
Next Match – Away – Hope Works – 1 May – 6.00pm.
Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Youlgrave – 26 April – 1.45pm.
Now dear reader you will know that playing on Pommy’s green is like jumping out of an air plane without a parachute so it is essential you play well on your own green, and play well we did. Only one win in the doubles thanks to Sue A and Ian J, but we scored some good points in the others. Parwich 43, Youlgrave 58.
Our first three singles players more than made up for our 15 point deficit in the doubles winning all three with a total of 45 – 17! The next three were a bit more challenging with the points being shared 42 each, however a new rule has been introduced this year whereby if a team has less than 9 players then that team will be penalised 25 points. Unfortunately Youlgrave only had 8 players so were docked the penalty points. The final score Parwich 130, Youlgrave 92 (117 – 25).
Next Match – Away – Whitworth Park – 3 May – 1.45pm.
Don’t forget that around 6.00pm on Mondays we have a bit of a practice, which judging by some of the results, is badly needed. Come along and have a go. Flat soled shoes are all you need.
John B.
