A glance at league tables after the opening weeks of the Season will show that Parwich have made a monumentally impressive start. A fact that other teams have to accept as GOSPEL…!
The Tuesday League kicked off the DANCE first this year and after eight encounters we sit a satisfying third INDIE table, well within striking distance of our adversaries if present form continues. The dramatic fact that hits the eye, though, is that all four home games played have been won by attaining maximum score; against Bakewell, Chatsworth, Hope and Matlock Bath respectively. We’ve had a few narrow losses on the road, however the win up at the magnificent setting at Bradwell last week will hopefully be the turning point here and a better away form will see us exert pressure on the leaders and REGGAE’n our place at the helm.
Thursdays we were sitting pretty on top spot after three straight victories, though a particularly disastrous result at Youlgrave, whose challenging green always seems to resemble a scale model of the Peak District, saw us drop from first to sixth in one fell swoop! It could be said that we had the BLUES on the way home after that one. Normal service resumed last week with an exceedingly narrow win at home over Matlock Golf Club, but it must be remembered that this is the Team’s return to Division One this year, where the opposition is of such strength that we need to be on our (HEAVY) METTLE for every shot of each match.
Good to report the encouraging news this season that we’ve attracted several new FOLK to the Club and that enthusiasm among all recruits is high – maybe the NEW AGE of Parwich Bowls Club. Several of these hardy SOULs make a point of ROCKing up to cheer us on at games both home and away; it’s even been joked that we look at running supporters’ coaches on our travels around the COUNTRY.
This Thursday we POP over to Wirksworth, a place where we’ve had many CLASSICAL encounters over the years, the result of that will be very keenly followed to see if we can continue to regain where we dropped the other week and HIP-HOP back up that table. Then Tuesday next it’s the turn of Whitworth Park to face the MUSIC at Parson’s Croft
And that’s JAZZ…..!
