Rates this summer are round 40% higher than the same time last year. This is due in main to the cost of crude oil which remains in the high $70’s this week and means 500 litres is likely to cost £60 to £70 more this year than last. We are being advised that rates could stay at these levels for some time and in fact may increase further with all the global and political volatility at the moment coupled with increased demand for fuels. Now may therefore be a good time for the Summer Fill!

OPEC and Russia have agreed to raise output by 1 million barrels a day, hopefully ensuring oil prices do not go any higher for the moment. However the increase hasn’t immediately had the desired effect of reducing crude prices which have been trading around a four-year high with crude hovering around $74 a barrel today.

With the latest dramatic events in the Middle East we’ve seen both Saudi Arabia and Iran make significant increases to production as they vie for a position of influence in the region by establishing market leadership and hurting their rival’s economy. This over supply has led to an unexpected dip in crude prices with a very happy outcome for consumers. In view of this we have been able to secure a new delivery price for our next order and so feel we should offer this immediately rather wait for next weeks scheduled order.

Crude seems to be holding around £70 a barrel however the pound has made good ground against the dollar passing 1.42 this week helping lower the cost of kerosene in many areas this week.

This time of year, I recommend ordering when you have around 6 to 7 weeks supply left in the tank. Deliveries will be subject to weather and supply conditions so I urge you to order early and allow plenty of time for delivery to avoid any problems. And again, please check your meter is showing a correct reading – maybe give it a reboot or better still dip the tank!

Please also note, due to a change in the legislation on credit cards, from the 13th January suppliers will no longer able to pass on the credit card fees they are charged by the card companies. Many are therefore advising they can only accept debit card payments.

The good news is Crude has finally stopped rising and seems to be holding around £68/69 a barrel plus we have seen rates fall back a little further this week.

This time of year, I recommend ordering when your tank is around 35/40% or 6 to 7 weeks supply left in the tank. Deliveries will be subject to weather and supply conditions so I urge you to order early and allow plenty of time for delivery to avoid any problems. The continued cold spell and high demand for heating oil is keeping suppliers on their toes. Please do not allow your tank to get too low before you order. You may wish to visually inspect your tank rather than rely on your meter as we had a number of members run out as they had not ordered due to incorrect meter readings!

Please can you ensure you have allowed plenty of time for your delivery. Delivery this time of year is subject to weather conditions and supply. If you are about to run out in the next two or three weeks you may wish to make an express order with a local supplier to ensure your tank does not run dry. If you are not sure who to use please do drop me a note.

We have seen a noticeable jump in rates for this week due to the demand on suppliers leading up to Christmas and into the New Year. The weather over the last week has not helped with many suppliers struggling to keep up with demand with deliveries taking longer as drivers struggled with conditions.

With Christmas less than a month away and delivery times of two weeks, if you require a top up before Christmas, please order this weekend. Orders are subject to weather and supply conditions. Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Crude passes $64 a barrel this week, its highest since July 2015 and concerns it may reach $70 a barrel in the wake of the shock anti-corruption purge in Saudi Arabia. OPEC are also due to meet later this month and has already displayed better than expected compliance with the agreed quotas while forging fresh partnerships with producers outside of the cartel, including Russia to substantially reduce output.

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Kerosene rates continue to rise with crude passing $56 dollars a barrel and suppliers now busy with autumn orders.

A quick tip, I recommend ordering when your tank level is 35% to 40% full. Apart from ensuring you do not run out before delivery, the other key reason is if your tank is virtually empty when fuel is added the sludge and water, which builds up over time at the bottom of the tank, will be stirred up and drawn into the system. This will cause issues. Suppliers are often blamed for suppling dirty fuel but in fact it’s often just the sludge and water in your tank.
