Due to the continuing cold weather, which means accessing some areas of the Dales remains challenging, there are still areas which have not and may not get bins collected on your scheduled collection day.
Crews are out, attempting to collect scheduled & outstanding collections where it is safe to do so. We will also have some crews out on Saturday working to recover the rounds that we have been unable to complete.
The recovery will continue on Monday so consequently, there still may be delays in collections next week.
The big message to all residents continues to be if you have not received your collection yet, please leave your bins/sacks presented and we will collect these as soon as possible.
Food waste collections that have been missed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week, will not be recovered until next week’s scheduled food waste collections.
Garden waste collections re-commence next week.

If collections are delayed due to cold weather, you can help us resume normal collections quicker by following these tips:
Keep bin lids fully closed, this will stop snow and rain from getting in the bin and keep the contents from freezing. Our crews will shake the bins several times to release the contents, but some waste may remain stuck in extreme conditions.
Check regularly that your bin lid is not frozen and can be opened easily. If your bin cannot be opened, it cannot be emptied.
Where possible, please keep areas around your bins free from snow and ice.

Serco and the Council waste officers have been out this morning, jointly reviewing and monitoring the condition of the roads around the district.
A joint decision has been made to stop the collections at the north of the district, due to weather related health and safety concerns. Refuse/recycling lorries weigh up to 26 tonnes and the drivers must ensure complete safety of pedestrians, property and other vehicles when deciding whether to collect from a street during icy conditions.
We know how frustrating it is when bin collections are delayed, and we are sorry for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, this week’s weather conditions mean that we are unable to get to some areas safely. Despite our best efforts, there are some areas which have not and may not get their bins collected on their scheduled collection day. Residents do not need to report this, as we are keeping track.
The crews will be attempting to recover any collections that have been missed from the south of the district today, where possible.

Is there a grit bin near you, and is it running low after the recent snowy weather?
Most of these bins are refilled by Derbyshire County Council, (The Highways Authority). There are contact details and a serial number on each bin which you can use to let them know that a bin needs filling, or topping up.
The exception to this is the bin at the top of the footpath path linking Gibbons Bank to Monsdale Lane via Bankside. This bin was installed by a previous Parish Council and is not supported by the County Council. If it needs filling contact the Clerk at clerk@parwichparishcouncil.gov.uk and I will sort it.

Bens pick up was parked near the school from approx 5.30pm yesterday (friday) until 9am this morning (sat), when he has gone to it, someone has hit the drivers side back corner, causing the bumper to crack and hang off, there is also a white scruff mark. Pleased to advise that we have recently enabled nearly 150 premises with Full Fibre broadband as part of the Parwich exchange scheme. The premises in question are primarily located in Parwich village and in DE6 1QA, QB, QD, QL, QJ, QW, 1NX, 1QH, 1QG and 1QT postcodes. Please Note: Not all premises in these postcodes are enabled, however we will continue to build our network over the coming weeks and months.
Whilst this is great news for Parwich, we are still hoping to build our new Full Fibre network to neighbouring communities such as Alsop en le Dale and Pikehall, however we are still short of our target costs in order to make this happen.
Our pledge site remains open Connect My Community (openreach.com), so people who haven’t pledged yet, but intend to order Full Fibre services soon, we would appreciate if they could pledge prior to ordering as this will help us obtain the required funding and hopefully hit our target. I also attach some information which can be shared electronically through email and social media and I would be grateful if you could help promote and raise awareness of the scheme.
We appreciate that most people are unclear about the monthly costs once Full Fibre services become available so it would be worth reaching out to their Internet Service Provider (ISP) to see what packages are available. A lot of ISPs will upgrade their customers to Full Fibre at no additional charge once it becomes available so worth checking with them.

In terms of areas that have been enabled, people can check whether Full Fibre services are available by following the link below and inserting their postcode and selecting their address. If the response confirms Full Fibre Broadband available as per example below, then they can contact their ISP to upgrade. Some providers may have already contacted their customers.
I trust this is welcomed news for the village and I look forward to bringing more good news in 2025. I would be more than happy to attend and provide an update at one of your next Parish Council meetings in the New Year. If this is of interest, please let me know and advise of suitable dates.

What a fantastic turn out for the Carols in Church. Thanks to everyone who came along with their best singing voices and we all stayed nice and warm thanks to the Church. Big thank you to Ashbourne Town Band who sounded fantastic and an extra special thank you to the amazing Rob Clarke who every year provides us with the BEST mince pies.
So that’s a wrap from the Parwich Carnival and Recreation Committee for 2024. We would like to thank everyone for supporting all the events throughout the year and we wish you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
The Carnival and Recreation Committee would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to Sarah and Jonathan Hotchin for their very kind donation of the village Christmas tree and also their commitment for future years.
