Smouldering fire

There is a fire that was lit yesterday in the field to the right of White Park, Alsop Road.  It is still smouldering. In this hot weather, I hope it is out completely.

Parwich Parish Council

Do you know what your Parish Council does for the village?

Maybe you think that the Council should have done more, less or something differently.

Even if you thought it was just right – Somebody had to do it!

Good, bad or indifferent, the Council only does anything because there are village residents willing to take a turn at being councillors.

Without them the village would lose control of it’s income and expenditure. This would leave responsibility for things such as Parsons Croft, the Village Playgrounds and the Village Greens with Derbyshire Dales District Council or Derbyshire County Council.

There are currently two vacancies on the Parish Council so we need more councillors.

Could you be one of them?

For more information please see this news item on the council’s website.

WE MADE IT 🎉🎉. Wakes 2025 you have been awesome. What a week in the sun! It’s been action packed and we are completely exhausted but happy to meet so many friends old and new. We are a truly special village, with some special people and we need to try and maintain that as long as possible.

Wakes would not be possible without the help and support from so many volunteers (Roger, Roy and David to name just a few!), the Carnival and Recreation Committee, the Oddfellows, Kirsty, Jane,Tom and the Sycamore Team and everyone at the Legion. So from me to you thank you. It’s time for a rest now but we will be back in 2026.

Signing off for now with a few of my favourite pictures (credit to Phil Cooke for some of them)….

The rain clouds may have gathered minutes before the start of Sunday’s Open Gardens but this certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of our garden owners, volunteers or visitors.

The village looked amazing and, once again, hundreds of people flocked to this corner of the White Peak to enjoy the green-fingered enthusiasm and hospitality for which we’ve become renowned. As one person put it afterwards: “Fantastic afternoon out, thank you to all who organised and opened up their gardens. Home with garden envy and inspiration.”

Final receipts are still to be confirmed but we shall, as always, be looking to share funds among other village clubs and organisations at the next Horticultural Society AGM, so do look out for details on the Blog towards the end of the year. Heartfelt thanks from the whole PDHS committee for making this possible and to everyone for your ongoing support.

June Parwich Film Show OCEAN

OCEAN WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH -a full length documentary- is a breathtaking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean.

Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing.

Stunning, immersive cinematography showcases the wonder of life under the seas and exposes the realities and challenges facing our ocean as never-before-seen, from destructive fishing techniques to mass coral reef bleaching. Yet the story is one of optimism, with Attenborough pointing to inspirational stories from around the world to deliver his greatest message: the ocean can recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen.

Guardian *****  Ocean with David Attenborough review – a passionate case against the ruination of the seas- Released on his 99th birthday and presented in the context of his remarkable career, Sir David’s authority is matched only by nature’s grandeur in this visually stunning film

Time Out “If you’ve watched BBC nature documentaries over the last decade, you’ll have seen similar images, but only the coldest of souls could ever tire of the sight of dolphins and seabirds all swarming around an undulating ball of silver fish. On the cinema screen it looks more breathtaking than it ever could on TV”
