Thank you to Martin for these photos and links relating to the controversial new wind-farm on Carsington Pastures. Whatever you may think of the merits this development, it certainly photographs well:
Here are some pics of the first wind turbine at Carsington Pastures. The second turbine is probably being erected today.

Note, You can see the turbine from Parwich (as you leave the village to the east past Mooredge, by the junction with Back Lane to Pikehall).
One BIG eyesore a blots on the landscape , hope they get taken down soon
Ha! Good one… They will be up for many years
If we look back to the past the landscape was peppered with windmills for grinding flour, these wind turbines just have a different task, we all need power, so as long as they are sited properly, they are ok in my book.
Isn’t it ironic that the centuries-old windmills in Holland are now a main tourist attraction for that country? The windmills often stand alone in very open countryside and certainly ‘stand out’, but no-one would call them ‘a blot’ on the landscape! They are being restored where possible and given lots of TLC, often by volunteers.
Personally, I do not have a problem with wind turbines, provided they are sited appropriately, as Terry says. I much prefer the elegant design of the wind turbines, capturing renewable energy, over the visual and material intrusion that the extraction of non-renewable fossil fuels creates on the landscape (often in someone else’s backyard…!). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
They’re an ugly white elephant of limited ecological benefit. The main beneficiaries are the landowner and West Coast Energy who will happily lap up vast sums of tax-payers money in the form of government subsidy. Take the subsidy away, and they’d not be half as keen to build the things. (And the Dutch windmills are somewhat less than 100m high!)
No matter who is running the energy industry, the name of the game is profit, and keeping share holders happy. I would rather my taxes go to renewable energy than some nuclear power plant that will cause the tax payer to keep paying to handle its toxic waste well into the next century. The wind turbines are the lesser of all the energy production evils available at this time.
There are islands offshore , that are not sanctuarys, that could house these turbines and cause no harm at all.
Carsington Pastures has now been decimated by these awfull structures. I used to walk in the area on a regular basis, taking photographs for my first book, but I won’t be going again. I would rather remember it the way it was. before some idiot gave planning permission for a wind farm to ruin the south peak landscape!!
