Not content with setting up The Horns and looking after her family, Jo-anne Jewett has been busy writing a book to help “empower” normal women by dispelling the myths about make-up and teaching them how to achieve a professional look themselves. The book, which is due to be launched at Bennetts in Ashbourne in July, is called:
‘The Beautiful Truth’
Make-up-is-easy
Don’t believe the hype!!
More about the book later, because not only is Jo-anne launching her book but, inspired by the “before and after” photo sessions that were done for the book, she is also taking a more hands-on role and fulfilling her original passion as a make-up artist and training coach. The models for the book are not actually models, they are ordinary women, aged from 13 to 68 and mostly from Parwich! Do you recognise the person in the before and after photos below….?!
As some of you may know, Jo-anne trained as a make-up artist in Paris with Helena Rubinstein. Her reputation for straight speaking and ability to train spread rapidly, and consequently she coached many celebrity clients including Princess Diana, Bette Midler, Barbara Streisand, Delores Hope (Bob’s wife) and Denise Robertson (“This Morning”).
Jo-anne has started ‘The Face Club’, based in Ashbourne, which involves a make-over, make-up lesson and photos. Jo-anne will be working in collaboration with Becki, of Red Square photography. Together they have devised a unique way of providing a personalised make-over and make-up lesson, using the photography as a learning tool. In addition to professional photographs at the end of the make-over, shots will be taken at each key stage in the make-over to provide an individual step by step guide to your new look so you will better understand and remember how to recreate it. Prices start at £85 – for details or to book call Becki on 300534 or visit www.redsquaregallery.co.uk.
Jo-anne is doing a demonstration on Mon 19th May at The Horns in Ashbourne; it will be a small gathering of about 25 – 30. Wine and canapés will be provided and pre-booking is required. The evening will cost £20.00 per person with all profits generously being donated to Project Parwich (Memorial Hall fund). To book, please call Jo-anne on 390722.
In August Jo-anne will also be starting make-up workshops, which will effectively be a make-up school. These will involve a full day of training for up to 10 people and can be tailored to suit all women, girls and professionals. For more information call Jo-anne on 390722.
But now, back to the book (and some more photos)…
Joanne wrote the book out of shear frustration at the lack of knowledge given to women who simply want to understand or try a basic make up. Jo-anne says, “Never mind ‘looking good naked’ or ‘you are what you eat’; the most dramatic changes a woman can make to her image are through the clever use of make-up.” To that end she have devised a technique / system, so simple to follow that even the most inexperienced in the use of cosmetics can follow, it is a basic make up system which is universal to all ages, face shapes and skin colour.
The book opens with an introduction to Jo-anne, her background and training; an introduction to the models and why they were chosen. The next sections include:
- Skin Care
Eye Brow Shape
Key Make-up Ranges
How to Choose Foundation
Make-up Tools
Make-up Application
Top Tips.
Final Word.
Photo montages of the models, with before and afters shots – see below for more examples of the photos.
Jo-anne summarises by saying:
“It is my passion, my mission if you like to finally show a unique, simple and achievable look to all women like us! Normal women, with families, trauma’s, complicated lives, who, when given this new skill, will at least have something to turn to, to uplift them when the need demands it. From professional women, who need to feel confident in their appearance at work, to the mother of four who wants to get back a piece of themselves that time forgot, or young girls starting out with confidence that will carry them through life – good make-up can make a difference.”
More before and after photos…
Just after photos….!
Now, is this before cake and after cake?
Funny you should mention it but there are some very good “in between” photos involving chocolate brownies!
The mind boggles! (I need an emoticon for that)
