The driving ranges of Solihull or the roundabouts of Slough?
Having so far failed dismally to create a challenging observation task, here is one last go. All the photos below have been taken in the lanes of Parwich in the last three days. In which gardens or in front of which houses are these wonderful flowers (or vegetables) growing. Putting my money where my keyboard is, I will donate £25 to Project Parwich if anyone manages to get all 25 correct. Further if anyone submits a post with all correct by 6pm on Sunday 15th June 2008, I will double this, and give a box of chocolates to the winner. (If a number of people get them all correct by 6pm on Sunday, the winner will be drawn out of a hat or nearest equivalent.)

This is by the well in Creamery Lane, the clue is in the background.
Sample answer: Outside Knob Hall (or opposite Rowan Cottage)

Names or numbers of houses please, not people’s names as they might not want to be named on line. (Note, the same house might occur more than once.) Perhaps anyone entering this competition could think of making a small donation to Project Parwich via the Gnomes of Sycamore Cottages.
Perhaps someone should also offer a prize for anyone that can name all the flowers.
The Blog Team has received an offer to print out sheets of the photos so they can be sold for Project Parwich. The above thumbnails are too small to work well, I have just tried it; so you will need the full-sized pictures as well, which would take too much printing.
Many thanks for this generous offer. I should have thought out this activity more fully in advance.
However, depending on interest I am willing to create another similar activity again in the future; perhaps during Wakes week when there are more people about, or during the School holidays when kids have more time to explore. So T. we may come back to you soon.
As an ‘aide memoire’ you can print out the thumbnails yourselves by highlighting them, selecting print and then selecting print selection.
Now this is tougher, I have 4 out of the 25 !
Well no one has attempted this by today’s deadline. However I am still committed to giving money to Project Parwich if the correct locations are identified. You can always pool your knowledge through the comments facility: EastAnglianExile you say you know four; and people should recognise the ones in their own gardens. I will give £1 for each one correct.
#3 looks like it was taken at the foot of the steps opposite Knob Hall (that lead up to the grassy area opposite Gardener’s Cottage).
Computer says ‘Yes’
#4 could be Rathbone Croft?
Computer says ‘No’
#8 could be the kitchen garden at Church Cottage?
Computer says ‘Yes, Well done!’
#21 is Parsons Croft?
Computer says ‘Nearly, but not quite’
Two correct Mike, but you did get two of the hardest. I will add Yes/No to the answers as they come in.
OK, so that’s £2 raised at least… it’s a start!
Another tip, which will work for most people: to print off full-sized photos, right-click on each thumbnail image and select “Print Target”. (It’s the 4th option down on my right-click window).
Are they gnomes I see in the background of no. 9?
Computer says ‘Yes’
No.2 was at the bottom of the steps leading up to Knob Hall, but it isnt there now, as I strimmed it whilst sprucing up the area for Open Gardens.
Computer says ‘Yes’
Is no.8 Catmint?
I think I have got no. 15 as it is appropriately for me the top of a wall. Is it the wall outside Clara and Denis’ at Nethergreen?
Computer says: Yes
Well done ‘On the fence’. That makes £5 for Project Parwich, which means I have got off very lightly unless anyone identifies any more of them, though this is looking increasingly unlikely as the various flowers go over.
A number of you seem to have missed your own houses, including at least one member of the Blog Team!
11 – A sheaf of wheat?
22 – A rose?
24 – A home for black birds?
3 houses in an row methinks.
Computer says: Yes (though I can’t now remember with 11 if this is the Wheatsheaf window or the Hallgates window, but you should know. Did Sue plant this wonderful oriental poppy?)
Yes Peter – Sue planted it. It’s called Patty’s Plum.
