SECRET GARDENS OF BAKEWELL from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday 24th August.
It is a chance to see parts of Bakewell not normally available, there are some lovely garden treasures tucked away, some are large & some small, with interesting plant collections and fabulous views – all are very access friendly. The gardens are situated around Bridge Street, Bath Street, Castle Street, Milford and Holme Lane, so it is a distinctly “watery” theme. Refreshments at the MEDWAY CENTRE, (near Lloyds Bank) with plant sales and Traidcraft. One charge of £4 at any garden entrance gives access to all gardens, maps also available from the Tourist Office. Visit gardens in any order. Free shuttlebus from Rutland Square, but the majority are only minutes from here. All proceeds will support the continuing work of OXFAM. Look out for green balloons on the day. All welcome! It was an extremely enjoyable and relaxing afternoon. We were pleased to see aspects of Bakewell that we wouldn’t normally see.
Just a shame that so many of the tearooms were closed by 4.30pm, when there were hundreds of people still wandering around Bakewell on a gloriously sunny Bank Holiday Sunday!
