East Midlands Today is broadcasting short interviews with Stuart, Phyllis, Shannon, and Nikki & Giles when they were watching ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in the Sycamore on Saturday. There are also some general shots of the village and of the pub interspersed with clips of Tom and Camilla’s jive, which has got them through to the next round.

You cant believe its not butter, you butter believe it.
And the longer version to come. I hope. See you at the Sycamore.
There was a slightly longer version in the evening bulletin… in which the pub’s lone Austin Healey fan was unearthed. A brave lad, if also a sadly misguided one! 😉
As an ancient fan of Strictly Come Dancing this is a terrific clip. Some of you may not know that a few years ago Tom made a promotional film (to further his career). He did a manic dance amidst the percussion section of a band, actually playing the drums, cymbals and whatnot with flying hands and feet – all strictly in rhythm. It was really a virtuoso performance.
He is also no mean trumpeter, and I expect he will be here on Remembrance Day to send those plangent bugle calls across the village. I find bugles and trumpets make my scalp tingle and my hair wants to stand on end – they have an extraordinary physiological effect, and it is not surprising that on the battle field, apart from their use for signalling manoeuvres, they must have given a huge psychological boost to the troops. I remember the first radio programme I ever heard – as a wee laddie. Dad had bought our first radio set (a battery and accumulator driven Cossor). He switched it on and we sat enthralled by a programme on the excavation of Tutankhamun’s tomb – in which silver trumpets had been found. These were blown (in Cairo) by British army trumpeters, certainly for the first time for thousands of years. I was hugely moved, and can still, in my mind, hear those thin high ethereal notes – they remain etched into my memory, and I like to think that the Pharoah might actually have heard them on his death bed.
But – back to earth – let’s have more of Tom and of those gorgeous girls in their skimpy outfits (how do they keep them on?).
