Dorothy Foden, of Brook Cottage, was well loved by many people in Parwich and beyond. She was very much at the heart of St. Peter’s church, as well as being a strong supporter of Parwich Methodist chapel. A new altar frontal in her memory, donated by Brian, was last week put in place in the chapel at St Peter’s. It was made by Jenifer Baines of Littleover, Derby, using the fabric ‘Venetian Tapestry’. Jenifer is an old friend of Andrew and Rachel Robinson, as well as being someone I have got to know through the Derbyshire-India links. The frontal enhances the chapel enormously, and it is very fitting that it should be in a part of the church which is also used by Parwich Methodists for their twice-monthly service.
The frontal will be dedicated during the Carol Service on Sunday 14th December at 5.00 pm, along with the first of the kneelers which have been made in memory of Ambrose Wilton.
What a beautiful looking new altar frontal. I love the design and colours – light and delicate. It will look lovely in our church and we will all be able to think of Dorothy when we see it.
Hi there
I have just come across your website and have seen the lovely memorial to Dorothy Foden.
This interested me because my name before marriage was Dorothy Foden, born 1940 Dudley, Worcestershire.
My ancestors in the mid 18th century were living around Ockbrook, Derbyshire. Earliest verified ancestor was Charles Foaden born 1767 married Sarah Winters/Winterton 1790.
Anyone in your area know of any ancestors/descendants??
Dot
Hi,
Yes I am descended from Phoebe Foden, (my g/gmother.)
Her father was Henry born, his father wsa John Foden born 1795 and is father was Charles Foden who married Sarah Winters. We have lots of family in New Zealand.
Do get back to me if you want.

Hi there Gail
I have only just seen your email on this website.
We are definitely connected because Phoebe Elizabeth Foden born 13 January 1871 in Timaru was the daughter of my 3 x great uncle Henry Foden born 1824 Wednesbury, Staffordshire, England. I believe Phoebe married Fred Lough.
I am in contact with Doreen Logan (nee Foden) in New Zealand.
Would love to hear from you at my email address:
dorothy.sorrell22@btinternet.com if you have the time.

Hi Dot,
I am also a decendant of Charles Foaden, and still have the family name.
Let me know if you would like to get in contact.
Regards,
Rich
Hi Rich (Foden)
Sorry for such a long-time no contact from this site in January 2010.
Here we are in January 2012 and I am contacting you because you have a Charles Foaden in your family tree, and your surname is Foden.
My 4 x great grandfather, Charles Foaden, born 1767/68 in Ockbrook, Derbyshire, married Sarah Winters/Winterton on 1 Feb 1790 in Ockbrook.
Sarah died in 1803 giving birth to her fourth child, Ezekiah, who also died one week later. At that time they were living in Bilston, Staffordshirel.
In 1795 my 3 x great grandfather, John Foden, was born to Charles and Sarah.
Hello Dot
I must have lost contact with you on this site and have just read your response dated 2/12/2009 ! Anyway, an email just popped up in regards to the Foden family and Rich.
I’ll email Dorothy Logan again and take it from there. But it was nice to see that the contact is still there.
