The phone box in Main Street has not been decommissioned but apparently the pay phone has been stolen. BT do have a long list of public phones that are being decommissioned, but so far ours is not one of them. (The confusion arose because ours disappeared at the same time as BT were removing phones elsewhere. However there have also been a number of phone thefts.)
The Parish Council are in contact with BT in order to get it reinstated as soon as possible.
What are you thoughts?
Note: our phone box is a Grade 2 listed building.

Curiously, there has been a similar theft at Milldale. The Alstonefield blog has the details: http://www.alstonefield.org/?p=1838
What’s the motivation for these thefts? I’m baffled!
Also, it’s interesting to see such strong support for replacing the phone box. On a number of occasions, visitors from outside the village have used it to phone us for directions to our house, when they’ve been unable to pick up a signal on their mobile phones.
Having spoken to someone who had rung BT to find out what was happening with the phone box, I decided to do the same and report back.
Our phone box which was reported missing in March is not well used, with only 300 calls being made in the last recorded a 12 month period. Fortunately it is a listed box so BT will replace the phone, otherwise they might have undertaken a commercial review to consider the viability of it. However as a result of a cutback of maintenance staff and waiting for parts, it may be several months before anything happens.
If anyone wishes to speak to BT on this matter ring 0800 661 610 or email customer.serv.payphones@bt.com
