Updated 2nd Feb: Since posting the information below, Karen Carpenter has offered to ring round different Oil Suppliers to get an overview of how various companies would work with local syndicates. Rather than having only one company attending the meeting, Peak Oil will be asked for their ideas, but not invited to the meeting.
A Peak Oil representative has asked Karen Carpenter (Derbyshire Dales District Council) if he could attend the open meeting at the Sycamore Inn on Thursday 11th Feb. She contacted me as the only member of the Blog Team whose phone number she had. We both felt that he may have useful information to share, but obviously it is essential that any co-op is not tied to any specific company. Consequently he will be offered a slot near the start of the meeting but will be asked to leave for the main discussion.
However, if anyone else has strong views on a company rep. attending the meeting please leave a comment, contact Karen Carpenter or email parwich@hotmail.co.uk.

Since the above was posted more information has come in:
When people have rung round oil companies on our current informal system over the last year, Peak Oil has declined to offer any discount for multiple/group orders from the same area.
At any point in time there is variation in prices between suppliers, and variation in the amount of discount they will offer. At times Peak Oil may be cheaper than other companies, but we have not found them supportive of the idea of a local buying syndicate. Other suppliers have offered significant discount on group orders.
Barbara Crossly at the Peak Park suggested I contact you regarding your oil order. In Grindsbrook Booth, a hamlet of Edale we have a system of ringing around when someone is low on oil and then contact Peak Oil to agrre a price and delivery. Not only does it reduce the number of trips up the valley but also produces reductions in cost by ordering in larger quantities. The bigger the order the better the discount. I hope this is useful to you in your discussions

It is interesting to hear how other people find oil buying syndicates work, but Gordon you will have to let us know what Grindsbrook Booth has that Parwich lacks in terms of getting Peal Oil to offer discount on orders for a number of households delivered on the same day.
Other companies have given us discount relating to the size of our group orders, but not Peak Oil.
