A resident of Ecton is undertaking a survey of varieties of apple trees cultivated in our general area, and several Parwich residents have asked us to post her questionnaire here. If you are interested in participating click here to down load the questionnaire.
It should be completed by the 5th of November, and you can give it to Jackie Battell in Parwich for dropping off.

Dear Readers
‘Apples with Altitude’ – a local tree fruit survey.
I am writing to you as a local resident to ask for your assistance. I am in the final year of my Landscape and Garden Design course at Reaseheath College, Nantwich and am currently conducting some research into growing tree fruit at altitude with particular reference to the local area (Staffordshire Moorlands and Derbyshire Dales).
I attach a short questionnaire, the aim of which is to determine the range and variety of tree fruit already growing in the area. The results of this, in conjunction with further research, will be used to compile a list of possible varieties for use in the area.
I intend to put my conclusions in the public domain so that they will be available for use by the local community. This will save valuable time researching and also save money by avoiding the purchase of ill-advised fruit varieties.
I do hope you feel able to help, since the greater the number of replies received, the better the research and the more useful the outcome. I have kept the questions as straight forward and short as possible.
Please complete questionnaires by 5th November 2010.
Collection boxes will be available as follows: Alstonefield village hall, Butterton, Hulme End, Longnor, and Hartington village shops.
Alternatively, this questionnaire can be found and completed at: www.alstonefield.org
Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. I hope that, together, we may be able to produce a worthwhile resource for the current generation and those to come.
Phillipa J Stupples.
Dear Ms P Stupples
I am very interested in the results of this survey. I too, am considering growing apples. The altitude is a little lower, and the climate a bit hotter in the summer, and colder in the winter than Ecton. Also it is a bit more urban. This is my location.

Good luck with your course.
