As many of our readers will already know, Mike Goulden passed away very unexpectedly this week. He went into hospital on Tuesday and died in the early hours of Thursday morning.
He was very well known to everyone in the village for the hard work that he put into keeping the shop going for a number of years and his involvement in the community in general. Most recently he was very active with Dales Housing and was a Committee Member for the Local History Society.
It seemed appropriate for us to put this note on the Blog today, as Mike has been a staunch supporter of Parwich.org and a regular contributor with photographs (including the one above) and comments; every Sunday as ‘our Weatherman on the hill‘ he supplied us with the Weekly Weather stats.
Our sympathy goes out to his brother, David and to his family and all the friends that he leaves behind. We will supply further information when we are able.

Really shocked and saddened by Mike’s sudden passing. We will always remember his cheerfulness and generosity of spirit. He was a key member of the pub quiz team where we met so many people when we first moved to Parwich. As an amateur meteorologist, I always held his observations and forecasts in very high regard, and always looked for the “Weatherman on the Hill” forecast. We will miss him.
Eileen and I were very sad to read the news that Mike had passed away.Mike was a very valuable member of our quiz team, and he will be sadly missed. Our sincere condolences to all his family and friends.
Sorry to hear of Mikes death he will be missed
I am so, so sad to hear this news. Mike was an amazing guy, so interesting to talk to and always had time for everyone. He had a great way with animals as well as people – Fly and him had a great partnership. Just recently he was a huge support in my Red Cross project. He will truly be missed. Hope the sun is shining wherever you are MIke. xx
I read the news about Mike’s passing with great sadness. Mike was so much ‘part and parcel’ of Parwich, always stopping to have a chat when we bumped into each other in the village. We would start with a snippet of one subject and ending on a completely different subject altogether … some considerable time later. Mike always showed such interest in others and his gentle manners made it a pleasure to meet him. I will remember Mike with a smile in my heart. My sympathy goes out to his brother, David.
I have only recently picked up the unexpected, sad news of Mike’s death as I was away in Vienna. Mike was such an enthusiastic and cheerful proprietor of our village shop. He had a constant fund of stories to tell about his experiences so that a visit to the shop was never just another speedy, boring, retail chore.
In his retirement he has been a supporter of many village societies and groups. Meeting him and his beloved Fly on walks or horse rides around the hill would always be met with cheery quips at the very least, or a mutual attempt to put the world to rights if we had time. We will miss him and all send our condolences to his family.
