Thank you to everyone that has been keeping the Blog up to date on the changeable road conditions. With tonight’s temperatures well below freezing and the possibility of more wind, it is not certain what the Monday morning traffic will meet, so please keep the comments coming in.

Weather

For those of you attempting Derby this morning, we received reports last night that conditions on the A52 before Brailsford were difficult. The road was down to one narrow lane at one point. If this has not been cleared overnight there may well be congestion here. So set off early is probably good advice!
just tried getting to friden brickworks in a 4×4 struggled to get to a515 via alsop eventually got up to the top of alsop hill to find a 4ft drift blocking the road so turned back, other people trying to get to friden from ashbourne cant get past tissington due to the snow
The road out of Parwich is only just passable for 4×4. Two cars have already tried and failed. Cars abandoned at Ballidon Lane end. Road closed at Bradbourne Mill.
We have tried to get out of the village this morning and the road, just at the corner where you turn left to Pikehall, is impassable, the drifts are such that it is impossible to get by and cars are getting stuck as they try to get into and out of the village.
A52 from Brailsford is closed. A515 from Ashbourne to Buxton is currently closed because of drifts. Wigley corner is just passable with a 4×4 but cars abandoned at bradbourne mill and ballidon lane end.
8:15 we got to Alsop OK, and about 2 miles south, but couldn’t get past a point between Newton Grange and the Bluebell. There’s a long upward straight that’s just full of drifted snow. We have a landrover but not with enough clearance to negotiate the ruts. A couple of 4x4s were just being dragged out. We passed the vicar going down that way. He’s got all the kit so he’s having a go!
Heard off my sister in law that the derby road is hard going as well as our local road.
Because of the bad road conditions Mum had to be taken to Hospital by air ambulance yesterday impossible to get an ambulance into the village, would just like to thank every one out of the village who helped to get her to the air ambulance which landed in Bells yard, now it is impossible to get into see her, must also say a big thank you to the paramedics who came to her they were brilliant
I received an email this morning from the visitors who stayed in my s/c cottage last week and finally managed to get back home yesterday. I would like to pass their comments on to all concerned:
” A big THANK YOU to you for all the help and support you gave us and to everyone in the village and The Sycamore for the information that was provided to enable us to get home, and a special thank you for the work done to get the road open.”
The gritter has just come through. Hurrah!
Left Parwich for Derby 2.30pm one little tricky bit on the corner just passed the triangle but other than that , oh and a few lorries going very fast on the 5056 all clear.
5pm: Just got back from shopping in Ashbourne, via the B5056. An enormous thank you to all who have been working so hard to keep the roads clear. A great deal of snow must have been moved to clear the drifts by the Thorns and on down to Ballidon Lane End, including more this afternoon. Unless there is more drifting or more snow, things are looking good for tomorrow.
Thanks to all who have posted, and for Peter T’s update. I may have to get to Ashbourne via Parwich tomorrow, since the A515 is still being reported as closed between Ashbourne and Buxton. Were you in a 4×4 Peter?
I was in a 4×4, but with fairly low clearance. Coming back at 5 pm the road between Parwich and the B5056 was fully cleared and passable in most cars with care, though still single lane in parts. The B5056 was fully clear though again single lane for a short stretch north of the Bradbourne turning.
Obviously if the wind gets up again …
Can anyone advise on conditions from here to Derby, please? I am meant to be going there (on my own, in a ‘normal’ car) at about 5pm today, Tuesday, not returning until 8.30 or so…
Marion, people have been getting into Derby this morning.
Thank you Peter. Next question, can you or anyone tell me the best route to Bakewell at the moment, please?
What’s the A515 looking like now? Police have asked me to recover my car from near to Jug&Glass so they can open road, but not sure how passable it is. Has anyone seen RAC/AA vans up there? Thanks
