It’s great to see swallows rearing second broods this year.
Interestingly our swallows have raised less broods this year. Some years the lead pair will raise three broods. However, we did notice that when they came they didn’t start nesting straight away but sat around for a week. My local expert tells me that it was because the weather was too chilly and food was scarce when they arrived and they were just waiting for things to warm up.
Out of the nine breeding pairs, only five raised two broods and the remaining four just one brood. Always sad when they leave as it dies seem to signify the end of summer.
You can always adopt,Patti
Thank you for that thoughtful suggestion Paul, but we still have one remaining family that only fledged last week so I am spared further responsibilities yet.
