Thank you to Mike R for collating this information. Best wishes to Dorothy in her new home from the parwich.org team, she will be much missed in Parwich and the surrounding area.
Dorothy Littlewood, late of Stable Cottage, has now moved to Delph near Oldham to be nearer her daughters. Dorothy came to Parwich about 25 years ago and taught piano lessons to many students in the area. She played the piano at Tissington Nursery for 17 years until her move. She returned to Tissington today to attend the annual Nativity Play and also to receive a retirement gift, a ceramic plate decorated with the inscription “Thank you from Tissington Kindergarten”. Dorothy must be well known to countless children who have attended the Nursery and it was a joy to her today to be greeted so warmly by the children.
Dorothy was brought up in Manchester, going to the Matthay School of Music where she learned to play the piano. She was a member of the Hallé Choir, singing second soprano and first alto in the Messiah and Belshazzar’s Feast among others. Dorothy was also an accomplished artist. She was a regular attendee at weekly painting sessions at Flaxdale House with Gill Evans, Evie Burlinson and Gill Radcliffe. She exhibited her paintings from time to time in Parwich at the Memorial Hall and at Flaxdale House.
Dorothy has three daughters, of whom Rosie and Martha live in Delph and Jill who lives in France.
Dorothy sends greetings to all the folk of Parwich who remember her.
Dorothy was our much loved, regular baby sitter when she first came to the village. I rather suspect that bed times were ignored as the girls always had so much to recount the following morning. Her own daughters have always been very loved by her and I’m sure she will be happy now that she is nearer to them. Good luck in your new pastures Dorothy.
Brian, Patti, Cassie and Alice.
I’d also like to thank Dorothy for all her hard work in the woodland garden, which looked especially beautiful in the daffodil and bluebell seasons. Here are some links to our photo posts over the years:

Dorothy, I hope you enjoy you new home nearer to family, however you have left a gap in the village, particularly that you were always ready with a smile and friendly words.
best wishes, Peter Trewhitt
