This racing pigeon appeared during the rain yesterday morning. In the afternoon I found it in my kitchen trying to open a bag of bird seed. It would only go outside when I took the bird seed out. It is getting on well with my cat, but is reluctant to move out of the way so I can use the car. As the weather is beginning to deteriorate again this evening, it wants to come back into the house.

If this is a stray racing pidgeon you can find on the owner and info on what to do at http://www.rpra.org/stray-reporting/ .
We had a pidgeon last year that got lost on its way to Yorkshire.
Thank you Martin, this is a useful link. By this morning the bird seems to have moved on. At a risk of perpetuating stereotypes, this was a fairly common occurrence when I was child in the North East, and as the link you gave says, we would give them food and water and after a few hours or so they would fly on their way. However I had not met one quite as instant as this that I provide it food and shelter, and that stayed over 24 hours.
