Can anyone tell me why the school bell has gone silent over the past few days.
Having recently moved to the village we had got used to its re-assuring chimes on the hour and used it to mark certain events in the day. . E.g. My daughter left for the school bus on the first chime of 8 but no more! Chimes – will she miss the bus?
Is this a temporary blip / scheduled maintenance / need someone to wind it up or an ancient tradition that we are not aware of?
Thank you for publishing the National Curriculum changes. It’s very good to be able to keep abreast of what is expected from our young children today. Putting on my tin hat, I’m thrilled to hear that grammar and punctuation will again feature more prominently. It was such an ‘unfashionable’ requirement when our girls were in their last few years at Parwich and it drove me crazy that content was the only criteria in evaluating their English compositions.
Hi Simon,
In answer to your question regarding the school clock yes there is an ancient tradition! Namely Arnold going on his holidays!! (Or in this case to our son’s wedding on the Isle of Man). It is also traditional for new neighbours to volunteer their services to stand in on these occasions and given your interest and close proximity to school you should to be ideal for the job! The only criteria being a ladder, a fairly slim physique in order to get through the trap door (a diet sheet can be provided) and a sense of humour!!
Arnold will be only too happy to talk to you about this if you would like call on him at School View Cottage or ring 390317.
Thank you and a warm welcome to the village.
