In the February meeting the Parish Council decided that the minutes of the parish council meetings will now only be placed in the village shop and on the Parish Council’s own Website (when it becomes available). The agendas of the parish council meetings will now only be placed in the village shop and on the parish council notice board.
The blog team is aware that a number of people rely on the internet to view the minutes of the parish council meetings and, as the parish council website site is not yet available, we have photographed these documents. Unfortunately this means the quality of these documents is rather poor; however you can still read them. Please follow the links below to the agenda for tomorrow’s council meeting and the draft minutes from February’s meeting.
Why would the Parish Council take such a backward step, and make things very difficult for certain individuals that are not as mobile as others, and rely on the village blog to keep up to date with whats is taking place at the Parish Council meetings and whats on thier agenda.
I quite agree with you Terry. I would also go so far as to say that it is good of the blog team to post a photo of the minutes on the blog so that everyone can see them, particularly in view of some of the comments made by “a resident” towards the end of item 15.2.4. of the minutes for the meeting of 25-2-15, who seemed to be criticizing the blog team for calling the meeting and the manner in which it was chaired. For some reason his opinions took up no less that 20 lines of the minutes, which is most unusual!!
Whoever “the resident” is, he is entitled to his own opinion. However, I for one do not agree with him. I think the blog team have been very careful not to show any bias or give their own personal views upon this matter. They have simply been “the voice of the people” which is the whole point of having a blog I would have thought (and a Parish Council for that matter.) “The people” wanted a public meeting, which was evidenced by the poll and also the attendance at the meeting. The Parish Council could (and in my view, should) have called a public meeting at any time, particularly when the poll showed that one was wanted by a large number of parishioners.
Furthermore, I thought the meeting was not either mismanaged or that the organisers of the meeting had behaved “disgracefully.” Is “the resident” trying to suggest that County Councillor Spencer did not chair the meeting adequately? Surely he would have stepped in if he thought that the organisers were behaving “disgracefully” in “encouraging” certain comments. On the contrary, I hold the view that it was a meeting that was democratic, unbiased and helpful in so far as it gave everyone their say and a better understanding of what the position is. I’m afraid that the only comment that I can agree with “the resident” upon is that the conduct of both the meeting and the organisers, certainly was in complete contrast to how our present Parish Council conducts their meetings.
Whilst I sort of understand the Parish Council wishing to have their own website, though I am not sure I will welcome the cost, I do hope that the blog will still continue to display the minutes of meetings. In our modern world, it is of course still important to display the minutes in the Sycamore, where I am sure a few people may read it, but also important to display the minutes here on the blog which has surely proved a very good medium to discuss them.
