Wakes Carnival Floats

The Carnival Parade is the climax of Wakes Saturday. The more entries, particularly floats, that we can get to take part the more exciting it will be. The Carnival Committee realise that preparing a float can seem like a bit daunting and may not be for everyone. But we would like to encourage you to give it a go. Perhaps you have an idea, some enthusiasm or a suitable vehicle – but not all three?

If so maybe we can help.

If you:

  • have a suitable trailer
  • would be willing to tow a float
  • have an idea for a float
  • are just someone who would like to be involved but don’t know where to start….

…please get in touch with one of the Carnival Committee or email lucywigley@googlemail.com and we will see if we can do a bit of helpful matchmaking!

There is no need to tow a trailer if you don’t want to. Dressing up an individual vehicle, or taking part in one of the lovely classic cars in the village would all be appreciated.

All entries will be very welcome, from those planned weeks in advance to one started at dusk the previous day.

As an added incentive the year will see the inauguration of the Laycock Trophy for the winning entry.

So come and join us!

Can anyone help…

A very tentative request: an American couple, keen supporters of Derby County FC (!), will be staying in my S/C cottage from Saturday 22 April, have tickets to watch DCFC play on that day (it looks like a 3 o’clock start).

They may possibly be interested if anyone is able to offer them a lift into and/or from Derby/Pride Park.

Please call Saskia on 440 if you think you may be able to help.

Problem with Thrown Eggs

We were wondering if anyone had reported having eggs thrown at their house and/or car on the afternoon of Thurs 23 Mar.

We had eggs thrown at ours sometime between 2-6pm, unfortunately they’d started setting when we realised.

Also, this morning leaving the Village for work I saw a couple of empty egg cartons on the verge outside the Village, so wondered if anyone had had eggs stolen as well?

Thanks
