The other day someone was asking me what happens to posts after they fall off the bottom of our HOME page. So for anyone else also wondering how to find old posts here is some guidance.
At present the HOME page shows the 40 most recent posts (this number can be altered but 40 seems to about work). When a new post is added to the top the bottom one moves down off the page. Depending on how many new posts are being added it usually takes between a week and ten days for a new post to reach the bottom of the HOME page and fall off. However, they are not lost and there are a number of ways of accessing them:
- The simplest is to click on the link ‘Older Posts‘ at the bottom of the HOME page. This will give you the 40 previous posts. Again by clicking on ‘Older Posts‘ at the bottom of this second page you can access the 40 posts before them, and so on. At the time of writing this post there are some 8 pages of older posts.
- At the bottom of each post you will see categories (e.g. ‘Project Parwich‘ or ‘Gardens‘), if you click on the category name it will give you a list of all the posts assigned that category. You can see the full list of category names about a third of the way down the short cuts column on the right hand side of most pages. At present there are 39 categories, but more can be added as the need arises. (You can suggest further categories by adding a comment below or by emailing us at parwich@hotmail.co.uk.)
- Posts can also be accessed through the Archives for each month that are listed near the bottom of the short cuts column on the right hand side of most pages (e.g. April 2008).
- You can also search the site using the search box in the top right hand corner of most pages. This will give you a list of posts and pages containing your search terms (e.g. a search for ‘hospital‘ at the time of writing this listed some 12 relevant posts).
- We have also created a category called Favourite Posts. If you click on this category (Favourite Posts) or on the link on the ABOUT US page, they will take you to a selection of what we think are our more interesting posts. Currently there are some 53 posts in the category.
- Also on some of the supporting pages we will also include a link to relevant categories, for example on the Horticultural Society page we have a link to ‘the archive of gardening related posts‘.
- We have also created a couple of indexes of posts that we think might be useful. These are ‘Eating Out‘, ‘Where to Go‘ and ‘Who to use‘. Again we hope to add to this in the future.
- Finally if the writer of a new post thinks an old post is relevant they may put a link directly to that post (e.g. this is a link to our post called “A quick word about comments” published on 12th April 2008).
Don’t worry if you find all this a bit confusing. Just experiment and explore, and in time all will make sense.

Sorry No. 2 above is misleading. If you click on the relevant Category Name in the list in the right hand column you will access our Archives for that Category. However something different happens when you click on the Categories immediately at the end of each post; then you get a selection of related posts from lots of different blog sites, not our Category Archives. (We are learning too.)
