If you hadn’t already realised it, Parwich is now visible via Google Street View. The Google car seems to have picked a quiet, sunny afternoon to visit us… but wait a minute, who is this mysterious figure? Answers on a postcard, please…

He does look quite familiar – I’m sure I’ve seen him about.
Although they have blurred out most car number plates, I spotted a couple you could still read and with a lot of the cars you can work out the model and get an impression of how new they are. Also with the houses there is a clear impression of whether there are hedges or bushes hiding doors and ground floor windows. Linking these photos with the maps will also give information on vehicle access.
How do people feel about privacy and security issues?
Google do say they will endeavour remove things that people are concerned about (see their YouTube video on privacy at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVvtii5j_d4 ). To have your car, house, a person or specific items blurred or removed click on the ‘Report a problem‘ link in the bottom left corner of the relevant image.
If you try to use this option do let us know how you get on.
I reported a legible number plate on a vehicle in the village and it was blurred within 24hours. So if you spot something you are not happy with it is worth reporting it.
Note: this number plate was on a vehicle parked outside the School, but not linked to the neighbouring houses. So don’t just check your own house.
google street view or open gardens what is the difference?
This photo is an excellent example of the lesser known ‘Great Crested Photrapher’ (GCP). A rather shy and retiring creature, it can often be seen near bodies of water, standing very still, so as to remain un-noticed by feathered inhabitants. Although unattracted to stale bread crumbs or bird seed, the GCP can often be coaxed from his hiding place with promises of Turkish Delight, or, as dusk falls, white wine.
Spot on identification Debbie Cheers GCP.
