John………………….they’re birds……….
I must get my eyes tested. J.F-S.
GADWALL. A surface feeding duck. I saw these too, flying over between Townhead House and Parwich Hill quacking nicely towards Tom’s Barn. Identification 20″ smaller head than the Mallard, a grey body, black rear white speculum in flight. Very visible in flight when white belly contrasts with with black tail-coverts. Flight like Mallard but wings are more pointed. Voice ‘ kaaak-kaaak-kak-kak-kak. Sound familiar?
Crikey Stuart….didn’t know you were such an expert on birds! (Feathered variety that is) I am impressed!
Ditto. I spend several frustrating hours on Google Image Search and couldn’t even get close. Yes, I know how sad that was! But imagine my excitement (and rapid disappointment) when Graham’s comment appeared.
Thanks Stuart. Now known as Stuart Gadwell. Cheers John F-S.
