Thank you to Nancy C who sent us these fascinating photographs of Harry Trager, an American soldier who spent time in Parwich, at the then Red Cross Hospital (also known locally as the Care Centre) after breaking his leg in a fall from a train in October 1942. These pictures are shown with the permission of Harry Trager’s granddaughter, and more information and photographs can be see at the Blog US Army Railway Units of the Past.

Is the man with glasses and arms folded on two of the pictures Dr Hollick of Ashbourne? Commander Hardy lived at Alsop Hall and my mother worked for her after my father died in Burma in 1943, both at Alsop Hall and the Care Centre
I have only just noticed this but Diana Hardy was my Grandmother and I spent a lot of time at the hospital when I was a very little girl. The lady in the picture with the ambulance was Miss Theresa Woolley. I remember Mrs Lowes and also her sister. The Matron was Molly Wysall. The dog in the picture belonged to us and he was called Tinker!
Diana Hardy became Mrs Boyd and lived at Alsop Hall until her death in 1991 and is buried in Alsop Churchyard
