Now, on Monday evening, the road from Parwich to the B5056 is passable with care, and the B5056 south to Ashbourne is also clear. We understand it is possible to get to the A515 through Alsop en le Dale, however we have not had any current reports of conditions on the A515 (Buxton Weather report there are still closures on the A515).
With the temperature again well below freezing and the possibility of more drifting, please keep on adding comments on road conditions, especially first thing Tuesday morning.
Tuesday 6-30am Road out of Parwich to Red House all OK to travel, narrow in places with a little ice; to allow passing look for vehicles ahead and oncoming. DS

According to the BBC Travel News (Derbyshire Area) updated one hour ago:
A515 Derbyshire – A515 closed between the A517 junction in Ashbourne and the B5059 junction in Buxton, because of snow.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/derby
The A515 between the Bentley Brook and Ashbourne was clear when we passed through at 630pm, so I’m surprised that the BBC site has been flagging it as closed from Ashbourne. Perhaps there has been severe drifting in the past couple of hours, but it does seem unlikely.
I agree. BBC Radio Derby 9pm News just quoted DCC as stating the same thing about the A515 from Ashbourne to Buxton and “travel North of Ashbourne only if absolutely necessary” (or words to that effect).
Travel north of the Alsop Road junction on the A515 is not advised in anything other than a landrover type 4×4 vehicle at this time. Contractors have been constantly trying to clear the road since Friday and due to strong winds, snow is drifting back in all the time, none 4×4 vehicles that have attempted to go that way have ended up getting stuck and hampering the efforts to clear the road.
The clear bit of road that you see in the clip was after a brief period of sunshine this afternoon, and doesn’t look like that now due to strong winds and drifting snow.
I like the vidio clip of A515 Newhaven road (lol)
Gritter, oh gritter, how we long for you!
The snow is a beautiful icy-blue
The drifts are impressive, the surfing sublime
Even though Parwich is nowhere near a coastline
But we need to get out and back to work
Mind you, a day off is a really welcome perk
The wind howls, the fire’s stoked up
The Horlicks (aarghh) comes out for a hot, steaming cup
A few memorable days when Nature rules our lives
Until the exhausted gritter arrives ….
Some roads are now open (not yet the A515)
And it’s all back to normal, to the treadmill of life
No more scraping of shovels, no more gaiters and boots
No more shop shelves empty of foods
Let’s be honest, we’ll miss the snow
Thank you gritter, see you in 10 months or so
As of 7am this morning, Derbyshire County Council have been listing the A515 as closed at Ashbourne, but re-opened between Buxton and Newhaven:
http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/transport_roads/roads_traffic/road_maintenance/snow_info/latest_update/default.asp
However, more recent updates on Bucton Weather http://www.buxtonweather.co.uk/ suggest that the northern part of the A515 is only just passable, with fresh gusting, and still best avoided.
Trip into Derby was straightforward at 7.00am. Some care needed heading out of the village through the piled up snow towards the B5056. A515 and A52 are fine – although there is some encroachment of ‘snow dunes’ onto the road requiring vehicles to move slightly into the opposite lane.
Buxton Weather reports the A515 is now passable all the way through from Ashbourne to Buxton.
Reading buxtonweather, it seems a bit ambiguous. Certainly they report Buxton – Newhaven clear (which it is), but no mention of Newhaven to Fenny Bentley. Coming down from Buxton tonight there was still a “road closed” sign up at Newhaven, so rather than chance it I turned left toward Via Gelia. Anyone got any views on Fenney Bentley to Newhaven?
I agree it is confusing, but they also quote someone who had travelled through from Ashbourne around tea time, with a clear road.
You are right Peter – I missed that. So it would indeed appear that the whole Buxton – Ashbourne stretch is now clear…. I wonder if I’ll chance it tomorrow????
I travelled A515 from Ashbourne to Jug and Glass this afternoon and it was all clear. RAC met me from buxton end so looks like it’s mostly clear. There are a few abandoned vehicles and a jack-knifed lorry but police told me they are waiting for vehicles to he cleared before declaring road officially open.
