Part night steeet lighting has now been implemented, that is some of our street lights are turned off between midnight and 5-30am. We will give our readers opportunity to review this more fully at the end of the year when we have had chance to experience it during darker nights, however in the meantime you can use the comments facility at the end of this post to share your experiences so far (good or bad).
The pattern of Parwich street lighting
the County Council planned to implement last month

Do let us know if there are any lights not as planned.
Originally the street light outside Orchard View Cottage was to be left on, or so I thought, thats fine but after midnight there are no lights from the village green until the end of West View! Maybe a street light alongside church walk could remain on after midnight, because you can’t see a thing!!
I am afraid darkness is what you get for all the hundreds of pounds in council tax that we all pay
Let’s not forget one of the 2 main reasons for the part-night lighting: to cut carbon, the other obviously being to cut the cost of the council’s energy bills. I don’t know the detail, but I understand that part-night lighting is one of several initiatives undertaken by the council to cut carbon emissions. Another initiative is taking place in all council-owned buildings, and in particular across Derbyshire’s school estate assessing what measures can be taken to reduce energy consumption through implementation of low/no-cost measures, e.g. by improving insulation, assess boiler settings etc. etc. Again, I understand that the council will actually receive considerable financial penalties if they don’t reach certain targets in reduction of carbon emissions each year and the part-night lighting may well be one of the measures contributing positively to this effort. I am actually quite proud of a council that is pro-active on this issue and I am very happy to carry a torch on those few occasions that I may need some extra light for a few minutes to see where I am going! I already have often done so in the past, but more so to make sure that cars will see me on the darker stretches of road!
If its all about cutting carbon emmisions then I am sure that the council will be offering all of us who pay our rates a rate rebate.
I wonder by switching off the lights, how this sits with health and safety and the disabled, who use our streets and cannot see where they are putting thier feet or walking aids. Carl has already brought to our attention how bad things are along church walk.
Should someone be injured by not being able to see where they are going due to inadequate lighting who will be responsible.
