Strictly Finals

Photo from Week 8This evening the Strictly Come Dancing finals starts at 6-40pm, with all couples dancing a Ball Room and a Latin dance.  Voting on the first part starts around 7-50pm, with lines closing at 9pm in the second part of the programme.  The couple with the lowest score will be knocked out.

The remaining two couples will then dance a Viennese Waltz and their Show Dance.  The lines will re-open during the Show, with the winner being decided only on the ensuing phone votes

All three couples chose the same Ball Room dance, the Foxtrot.  Tom and Camilla are looking forward to dancing the Foxtrot, which is their highest scoring dance so far, and have chosen the Salsa for their Latin dance in the first part of the Finals.

Vote for TomWith last semi-finals’ scoring  controversy, last week’s scores will be carried forward to the first part of tonight’s Show meaning Tom will start in either joint second or bottom, so it will be essential that Tom not only finds favour with the judges but also does well on the public vote.

Tom is the current bookies’ favourite to win, and may be helped by Rachel’s ‘back injury’ in training.   There were a lot of column yards given over to last week’s voting fiasco.  Let’s hope there is no repeat of last week’s judges scores, or we could have the same problems all over again.

Here is the round up of Tom’s week in the press, with increased broadsheeet participation, but not including much on the voting controversy as we do not have sufficient time or space:  (more…)

Strictly’s Finals Scoring

This Saturday’s Strictly Come Dancing final will be in two parts:

  • At the start of the show, before any dancing takes place, all three couples will have their scores carried over from last week. This includes not only last week’s judges’ scores (in which Tom and Camilla placed last), but also the results of last week’s public phone votes (which will be revealed on the night).
  • After the first set of dances, the judges’ new votes, plus the new set of public phone votes, will be added to last week’s scores. The lowest scoring couple will be eliminated.
  • At the start of Part Two, later in the evening, the remaining two couples will dance again, with the winner decided solely by a new public phone vote.

Vote for Tom

This means that Tom and Camilla will start the first part of the show with a potentially major disadvantage – so the phone votes are all-important.  No matter how well or how badly Tom and Camilla do on the judges’ scores on Saturday, they will still need the public’s support.

For the Strictly geeks amongst you, the planned voting system announced yesterday does not exclude the possibility of last week’s fiasco happening again…   (more…)

Tom is Strictly Finalist

On Strictly Come Dancing this week Tom and Camilla danced an energetic Jive and a beautiful Argentine Tango, but failed to find favour with the judges.  When the phone lines opened they were left standing at the bottom of the judges’ score board.

Tom & Camilla’s Jive

However, with a change to the advertised structure all three couples in the semi-finals are to go through to next Saturday’s final without a dance off.  At the start of this evening’s results show it was announced that the lines were being frozen, and at the end we were told that all the couples were through and this evening’s votes are being carried forward to next week.  (more…)

This week’s Strictly round up

See the week 3 JiveThis week Tom and Camilla are dancing the Argentine Tango and the Jive in Strictly Come Dancing‘s semi-finals.  They have already danced the Jive: it was their second dance in the competition (week 3), when they came second on the judges’ scores.  For everyone this is their first time with the Argentine Tango, that originated in Buenos Aires in the late 1800s.  Initially it was considered too raunchy for the ballrooms of Europe, and was altered into the Tango.

Vote for TomTonight the show starts at 6-10pm on BBC1, with the phone lines opening at approximately 7-10pm.

The lines will be open until 9pm, closing during the Results Show, which starts at 8-55pm on BBC1 this evening.  Note this week the Results Show is tonight, Saturday, and not on Sunday.

All are welcome to watch both Shows tonight on the big telly at the Sycamore.

Here is the week’s media round up:  (more…)

Tom’s highest score so far

Tom has convinced the judges this week that he is a dancer, with his foxtrot gaining three tens. The competition could hardly be closer, with three of the four couples in equal first after the first round.

The Foxtrot (including some great footage shot in The Sycamore, from 0:53).

His rumba attracted mixed comments, but overall Tom and Camilla are in second place. However, this may not be enough to ensure they get through to the semi-finals.

The Rumba.

The results can be seen on tomorrow night’s show at 8-15pm on BBC 1 (Sunday). Will Tom escape the dance off?

Strictly Quarter Finals

Tom and CamillaThis week on Strictly Come Dancing Tom and Camilla are dancing a rumba and a foxtrot. The programme starts at 6-05pm this evening with everyone welcome to come and watch it on the big screen at the Sycamore Inn, which has been visited twice by BBC film crews this week. Click here to see the vicar’s video clip of Tom’s ‘quiet’ drink on Tuesday evening.

The phone lines are open this eveniong from approximately 7-25pm to 9pm. Although Tom has got over his dose of flu, the competition will be very close. The public vote will be estential for anyone to be sure of getting through to the semi-finals.

This evening Tom, Clare and Camilla spent over an hour in the Sycamore Inn, enjoying a brief break from the ultra-intensive schedule of Strictly Come Dancing.  The BBC from London were there, as well as local reporters.  A very lively crowd of regulars as well as visitors tried to get the camera crew to pre-record us all wishing the nation’s viewers a Happy Christmas …

Tom and Camilla at Sycamore Inn

Tom and CamillaTom Chambers and his dance partner Camilla Dallerup will be visiting Parwich today.  This is only the second time Tom has managed to get home since his wedding.  They will be at the Sycamore Inn around 8pm.

He is keen to see as many of his old friends as possible and to thank everyone for the local support he has received.  Also at this stage in the competition, with so little dividing the contestants on the leader board, public popularity is essential if they are to get through this Saturday’s quarter finals.

Tom’s first 10 may not be enough

Tom and Camilla’s waltz split the judges, gaining a 10 from one and a 7 from another.  Their total score of 70 for both the waltz and the samba placed them in their lowest position so far on the judges’ leader board; second from bottom.  So the public phone vote will be very important this week.

Waltz

Samba

The phone lines are now closed for this week, and the results can be seen on the Sunday Show at 8-15pm on BBC1.

Tom ChambersThis week on Strictly Come Dancing Tom and Camilla are dancing both a waltz and a samba.  The programme starts at 6-05pm this evening with everyone welcome to come and watch it on the big screen at the Sycamore Inn (along with a BBC camera crew).

The phone lines are open from approximately 7-35pm to 9pm.  Tom, although the most consistent scorer, has not matched some of the others’ highs.  However are his hopes for a 10 this week threatened by the flu?

The betting is close between Tom and Austin as favourite to win the series, but at present Tom might just have the edge at around 6 or 7 to 4.  In the Ashbourne News Telegraph poll he continues to be the favourite with nearly 60% wanting him to win (Lisa and Rachael are joint second with just over 14% each.).

BBC back yet again!

Having been here for the Politics Show on Wednesday, BBC cameras will be in Parwich again tomorrow.

Tom ChambersThis time they are back to film Tom’s local supporters watching Strictly Come Dancing at the Sycamore Inn.  The programme starts at 6-05pm on Saturday evening, with the wide screen TV and chip butties laid on in the pub.  This week Tom and Camilla are dancing both a waltz and a samba, and they desperately want to achieve a 10.  As it is so close dance-wise, the non-dancing publicity will also be vital.

Janet would welcome as many people as possible to block sight of the building work from the cameras.  Indeed she deserves a big thanks for keeping the shop and pub going during the flood damage repairs.

From Salsa to Tango

This week on Strictly Come Dancing Tom and Camilla are dancing the Tango. The programme starts at 6-20pm this evening with everyone welcome to come and watch it on the big screen at the Sycamore Inn.

The phone lines are open from approximately 7-25 to 9pm. It does not look like John Sergeant’s withdrawal from the series will effect how the competition is structured, though the Strictly website reports he and Kristina will be performing a farewell waltz on tonight’s show.

Here is Tom and Camilla’s recent interview on It Takes Two (Wed 19th Nov):

According to the bookies, Tom and Camilla are now second favourites to win the contest, just behind Austin Healey and Erin Boag.

Another fine performance this week saw Tom and Camilla picking up 35 points from the Strictly judges, leaving them in third position behind Austin & Erin (38) and Rachel & Vincent (39).

“Those sequins, they set your hips in motion!” – Arlene.

“There are three things you need in salsa: rhythm, rhythm, rhythm. You had that; you were fantastic.” – Len.

“The Spice Boy has risen to the challenge yet again!” – Bruno.

“Very well executed. Boundless energy. However, I have one small point to make…” – Craig.

Sadly, for reasons of space, PARWICH.ORG is unable to bring you Craig’s “one small point”…

Update: We are happy to report that Tom and Camilla have made it through to next week’s show.

Vote for TomThis week’s Strictly Come Dancing starts at 18:05 – and as usual, The Sycamore will be screening the show on their jumbo-sized screen. Voting commences at 19:20, and the lines will remain open until around 21:00.

Tom had a bit of trouble with a stiff neck earlier in the week – but a visit to the physiotherapist has cleared the problem, and we can expect to see him and Camilla dancing a sizzling Salsa on tonight’s show.

Although the couple have been sailing through the competition thus far, picking up deservedly high scores from the judges every single week, last week’s shock result for Rachel Stevens – placing her in the bottom two on Sunday night, despite being one of the most capable dancers in this year’s contest – demonstrated that nobody is safe. (Apart from John Sergeant, obviously.) So please don’t forget to vote!
