Meet the Neighbours

It is some time since we have said welcome from the blog to our new residents. Lockdown didn’t help. If anyone has moved in over the last couple of years or so and would to say hello to the village please get in touch. To start us off please give a warm welcome to Kirsty:

Hello

My name is Kirsty Norman and I moved into the village a few weeks ago. I am living in Brook Cottage ( not the one nearest The Sycamore, the other one, next to the footpath that goes to the churchyard) so if you are walking past and see me, I would love it if you  say “hello” 😊

I am new to Parwich but not to the area. Although a Southerner originally, I have been in Derbyshire since 1994.

Until recently, I was living in Alstonefield and prior to that, I was  in Bonsall, near Matlock.

Back in the 90’s my family and I used to have The Watts Russell Arms pub in Hopedale and The Manifold Inn at Hulme End. So if you frequented either back in the day, I may have served you a beer or made you a ham cob!

My parents and sister also live in the area, in Alstonefield and near Longnor.

Thank you to those people that I have already spoken to, you have made me feel very welcome.

Regards

Kirsty

I am collecting supplies for Ukraine for a friend of mine who is organising a delivery lorry. She is based in Mansfield and is also looking for people who can help pack items and load the lorry. Medical items, toiletries and nappies can be left in the green box on the wall outside my house; The Cottage, Nethergreen. If you are able to help in Mansfield then please contact me for further details.

A massive thank you to everyone who donated prizes, helped sell (big shout out to Jane at the pub) or purchased tickets we are really pleased to announce that £670 was raised. The school are so appreciative and have already placed an order for their new books.

The school children picked out the winning tickets on Tuesday and all winners have been contacted.

Personally I would really like to thank everyone in the community for supporting the school. The school is a real family and its so important to keep it in the heart of the village.

If you have any questions about the raffle please contact me on lucywigley@googlemail.com

As mentioned at our recent talk, Parwich and District  Horticultural Society plan to only sell plants grown in peat-free compost from 2022. That means that any plants you buy at Open Gardens next year will not have been grown using compost containing peat. The extraction of peat for use in the horticultural industry is destroying our low-land bogs, releasing Carbon dioxide into the atmosphere  and contributing to climate change.
If you plan to donate plants or seedlings for sale please could you ensure that you use peat-free compost. This is widely available but if you have any difficulties please contact Sue H (334 ) and we will be happy to receive plant divisions to pot up for you.
We hope that you will support us in this endeavor, especially as it would mean beating the Government’s deadline of 2024, when bags of compost that contain peat will no longer be for sale.
