Plant Stall Success

Thank you to all who bought plants over the bank holiday weekend. In total, including a donation, £130 was raised for St. Peter’s Church.

Once all the cash has been received, the money will be transferred to the Church, without any reservation, but in the hope that if the suggestion to situate a composting toilet in the church yard takes off that this can be used to support that project.

Plant Sale Continues

Church Farm, Creamery Lane
Bank Holiday – Monday 26th August – all day

Thank you to all who have bought plants or pots so far. There are several bonsai pots, some house plants (begonias and aspidistra), herbaceous plants (including irises and day lilies), pond marginals (corkscrew rush), two blueberry plants in need of nurturing, a dwarf laurel and two trees (a willow and a yew). As the weekend has progressed prices are dropping.

A few more sales and we should top a hundred pounds for St Peter’s Church.

Rocking chair for sale

Another potential restoration project. Large child / small adult rocking chair for sale.

£10 from 8 Sycamore Cottages 01335 390454/ 07714171411

Just throwing it out there, I do have a “witch” dolls house, plus contents included totalling £150 over the years but due to damage and need for tender loving care, happy to let it go for £30. BUT it is not for children as lead paint has been used in the past so it could be something our artists work on and resale themselves.

If you email me, I’ll email a photo. Quite large so you’ll need a car to collect.

The Last Travelling Shop

The Last Travelling Shop

Over the years lots of different businesses have brought their wares to sell in Parwich. There were still three regular vans when I moved here getting on for thirty years ago. The last remaining is R G Morris and Sons, wholesale fishmongers from Buxton. Their van stocked with fish, shellfish and an increasing range of other items came on Friday’s.

However they too are moving into the digital age of online ordering and deliveries. They are expanding the counter sales to the public and opening a restaurant in Buxton, but their regular fish van’s last visit will be on Friday 23rd of this month.  People can still order for home delivery on Tuesdays to Fridays (www.gofish.co.uk), but I will miss going out each week and picking from the back of van what looked good or took my fancy.

IT and Tech support

I am a masters student staying in Parwich for the next two weeks, with the Pitts. I have stayed here a number of times before and have previously done free lance work here. If any one in the village wants some IT or Tech support (eg setting up new computers, installing or updating software, fixing old tech), while I am here please get in touch.

Nandor has done work in the past for me and a number of other people in the village, he is pretty reliable. Peter T.

History society walk

We have arranged to have short talks and a closer look at the church and the old manor house so you’ll get a really good insight into the history of the village.
We’ll meet on the green outside The George at 2pm, go to the Manor and the church and round the village, then back to the green for refreshments at Frank’s cafe and those who would like to can walk down the old packhorse route to Milldale.
It promises to be a lovely afternoon, don’t forget hats and water!

💐 Flower Festival 💐

St Peter’s Church was decorated with flowers for the Flower Festival which was held on Sunday 21st July.

The morning began with a Songs Of Praise service followed by tea and cakes being served throughout the day. Lots of visitors came into the church and admired the flowers and arrangements which had all come from local gardens.

Evie’s Art Group exhibited some of their work and Parwich Primary School had their display of artwork and flowers in the Lady Chapel. All of which looked beautiful and received some lovely comments.

The church looked and smelled incredible, and the flowers remained in place for the week following, for visitors to admire.

A very big ‘thank you’ goes to everyone who helped to make the event happen, for all their time, hard work, efforts, donations and support. Also to all those who gave so generously, it really is appreciated.

Thank you also to John Lord for the attached photographs of the festival.

We shall be having a meeting in the church on Tuesday 13 August at 7.30pm to chat about further events and the possibility of having another Flower Festival next year.

Everyone is welcome to attend, whether you were involved this year or may like to be in the future.
