At last the road to Ashbourne is re-opening today! (Thank you to Dave R for letting us know.)
The road blocks came down yesterday and some vehicles have already gone through. The County Council can not give a specific time for the road closed signs to come down, though it will be officially open sometime today.
When you take the road watch out for loose chippings, and let us know how the road is now. Also any photos are welcome.
Well done to Highways for finishing the road works within schedule, and well done for their general maintainance of the minor roads (particularly through Alsop en le Dale) that have suffered so much from the combination of increased traffic and bad weather.

We passed through the newly reopened B5056 at 16:30 today. Impressed with the extent of the work that has been done, hadn’t realised that there are improved sections from Bradbourne Mill right through to the Bentley Brook. And great to be able to have a traffic light-free run, for the first time in, what, nearly three years or so?
How is it possible to feel so excited about a bit of new road opening? It’s sad but I do …. no more going the long way round dodging the traffic in the ‘rush’ hour, no more having to travel miles and miles past our junction on the A38 in the horsebox at the end of exhausting days away competing because we can’t go through the villages – just home sweet home and a cup of tea an hour earlier…bliss.
I whooped for joy all the way along.
We’re going to hitch up the wagon, make the epic journey to the Big Town and sell our pelts!

Would an official opening by the new Minister of Transport cutting the ribbon be in order?
We went down road last night seems to take no time at all to get into Ashbourne. Sam looked quite bemused as he had got used to the 20 min naps into Ashbourne.
It is quite wonderful – it feels like a motorway after all we have grown used to!
Can someone please put up a sign at the bottom of Creamery Lane, reminding me that the new route is open? I just know I’m going to go ‘the long way’ by accident!
I totally agree Debbie, thinking of putting a post-it on my steering wheel. When the road was first closed I spent most of my time heading off only to have to turn around and head towards Alsop.
The newly opened road is superb, but I still seem to find it a bit narrow,so did Glynis by the look on her face!! I was my side of the line, honest.
