Lewis N has sent us the following picture of Monsdale Lane…
Lewis says “I’m sure the Back Lane does not usually end there!”
Mike G sent in an email saying that Monsdale Lane was still closed at 10.45.
20.45 – Robert Gosling has just contacted the blog having seen the photo of the fallen tree. He will remove the tree tomorrow morning, as it was on his land, and the road will be open by lunchtime.
I went down to have a look this afternoon. A fallen tree has completely blocked the lane, just before the Cuckoo Gate, and shifting the blockage won’t be a trivial matter. Clearly a fresh fall, as blossom is still on the tree.
Are there “procedures” for clearing the lane? Do the authorities have to be notified?
I think this must be a case for Doctor Who,What strange creatures could be lurking on the other side ….

Funny this should happen, as I’ve been considering bringing this up. There are a number of trees along the lane which are dead, and hanging very low, and look as though they could come down any time. I think there are several that need to be removed. Don’t know who owns all the land along the lane, if some is public, or what, but I do think something needs to be done. Allie and I walk down there regularly, and the tree branches seem to be getting lower and lower.
If anything comes of Debbie W’s post (above) would it be possible for people to wait until after our resident and migrant bird breeding season? The wood warbler for one, arrives in the spring and nests up the woods along the lane, (they are around until august). Tawny owls lay their eggs around April/ May and they take over a month to hatch with the young birds taking around 60+ days to fledge… the list goes on (I could add this in a future post if people are interested).
It would be a shame to disturb their season after such a harsh winter…
Excellent point Esther!
