Parwich Parish Council have spent considerable effort exploring some possible uses of the land on the west side of Pump Hill that makes up part of the Square (click here to see extracts relevant Council minutes). However their proposed sale of this land has prompted local controversy (click here for some of the responses here at parwich.org).
The sale of this piece of community owned land would be an irreversible step. Should there be a public meeting and consultation prior to a decision being made on this issue or should the Parish Council be left to make the decision on our behalf?
I hope the council -+the village can give there thoughts on this . I would attend a public meeting as I was involved from the start. jane
Already in less than two days this is our second most voted on poll; the most voted on so far was the Scottish independence poll, that attracted 130 votes.
Thanks for posting this poll Peter, it was much needed as evidenced by the amount of votes. Well done.
for a computer dinosaur ….. could you clarify – is this poll just open for jusr those in the village or can anyone on the internet vote? is it just one vote per hosehold? thanks.
Leslie, I did not personally publish this poll. It was something we discussed as the Blog Team and drafted collectively.
I personally feel various criticisms of the Parish Council have made discussion of a number of issues difficult and suspect many people are now reluctant to comment on matters involving the Council.
However as a Team we felt that, though the Parish Council are putting in considerable time and hard word for the good of our community, on this issue they may have misread local opinion.
Jean, people can only vote once. If a household have only one computer, then they can only vote once, but if family members have separate devices and use different email accounts they can each vote.
We can not say geographically within Britain where votes are coming from, so we can not say whether votes are coming from within our area our not. So theoretically, if an individual felt strongly enough they could contact all their friends and relatives and try to get them to vote as well.
However, it is not necessarily a bad thing for people not currently living in Parwich to be involved, as with Jane’s comment above. Though she does not currently live in our immediate area, she was part of the Parish Council that instigated the purchase of this land.
We can see what people search for, when coming to the site, and what links they used, so it is possible to look at the statistics around the time of a poll and to say if the readers at the time were behaving in the same way as readers at other times.
Further there are a significant number of local people still not on line. Consequently an on line poll of this sort is very different from a community vote such as was undertaken on the Memorial Hall project, or by the Parish Council in relation to the Nether Green avenue of trees. However it is a useful way of establishing if there is a need to explore local opinion further, which is why as a Blog Team we asked the question about a public meeting, rather than about the proposed land sale itself.
thank you for that – it’s made it much clearer … and at least I dont think our household has
broken the rules!
