The fifth annual Parwich Panoramic Five fell race took place successfully this fine evening. The overall winner came in in good time, though exactly a minute slower than last year’s.

Panoramic Five: a route and some history

The Parwich Panoramic 5 fell race started in 2009. Initially set up as a fund raiser towards the redevelopment of the Memorial Hall, our village hall, it has become an annual fixture in the fell runner’s calendar.
Further down the post is an outline of the Senior Race route, and information on the history of what you might see when taking it at a more leisurely pace than the PP5 competitors do. Please walk the route and send in any photographs to parwich@hotmail.co.uk, as we hope eventually to produce a leaflet for both locals and visitors.

We get a lot of information and press releases from the County and District Councils and the Peak Park Authority. Many are not of specific interest to our immediate area or are too general for parwich.org. However today there are few that may be of tangential interest to some of our readers, not enough to warrant separate posts, but perhaps worth a brief listing here:
- Tour de France visiting Derbyshire in 2014, though not near to us. Click here for more details.
- Serco agreed to pay £75,000 to cover costs incurred by Derbyshire Dales District Council in tackling a series of problems with the launch of a new waste and recycling service. The good news is the new contract is now working well and, in addition to saving Dales Council Tax payers £385,000 a year, has increased recycling rates to almost 50% – one of the best figures in Derbyshire. - Information on the County Council’s autumn term Adult Education courses are now available, click here for County-wide information. Also click here for details of the Adult Education Centres in Derbyshire Dales.
- Derbyshire Dales District Council urges local people of all ages to give new sports a try, as its Wirksworth Leisure Centre stages a free open day on Sunday 28 July.

What a fantastic Wakes Week. A big thank you to the Carnival & Recreation Committee, the Oddfellows, the Legion, the Sycamore and everyone who works so hard every year to make it such a success. (And the weather was OK too!)
With all the great photos and results that have been coming in, it can be hard to find all that has been posted at parwich.org, so here is a list of the 2013 posts (with links) in the order the events happened.

Grand Ball Race & End-of-Wakes-Week Dance.
6.30 pm – Our Annual Ball Race.
The Ball Race will be rolled down Pump Hill at 6.30.

9.00 pm until late – End-of-Wakes-Week Dance in Parwich Memorial Hall.
For many years the end of Wakes Week was marked with a village dance. This year we are reviving the tradition.
Music by Colin Keyworth and Breaking Poynt. Bring your own drink.
Admission by ticket (adults only) – £5.00 from any Committee Member.
