SE reported that at the present time there is no Priority Profile (PP) in place.  There were several new concerns regarding the theft of grit from the local DDDC grit bins.  DS was aware and had a good idea who was committing the thefts, but a ‘word’ to certain members of the community may deter further issues.  It was stated that the grit bins are £280 to purchase and £70 to fill with grit.

Parking Warnings from Ashbourne Police

Motorists are being asked to park with care in Ashbourne town centre after police officers have received complaints from local businesses.

The issue has been raised on Compton Street, where vehicles are being parked inconsiderately and blocking exits and entrances, especially around Lumbards Garage and petrol station.

PC Ian Cooper of the Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Vehicles are often left being unattended, in positions that fully obstruct entrances and exits, and making it difficult for drivers to get on and off the garage forecourt.

“We are well aware of the problem and will be dealing with offences where drivers are causing an obstruction or parked in a position which restricts the view for other motorists and pedestrians.”

Concerns have also been raised about drivers who are leaving vehicles outside of the marked areas.

He added: “It mostly seems to be people who are looking to nip into the shops, but I would advise them to think about where they are parking and with care and consideration to others. Your shopping could become much more costly if you take the risk and receive a fixed penalty notice.”

A fixed penalty notice, which is a £30 fine, can be issued by police officers for obstruction or by Derbyshire County Council Parking Attendants for parking outside marked spaces and permitted zones.

Don’t forget Monday 13th – Safer Neighbourhood Meeting at the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm.

Minutes from the Steering Group Meeting held on Monday 27 September 2010, 7.30pm at Kniveton Village Hall.

Sgt Edwards opened the meeting and thanked all present for their attendance. PCSO Cleveley read out the minutes from the previous meeting.

Parking at Tissington Village

A meeting took place at Tissington Hall to discuss the Tissington Traffic Plan (TMP) with interested parties attending. All aspects of the issue of parking were discussed, but are still ongoing.

Parking at Kniveton School (Priority Issue)

SE explained that a letter had been received from a local MP regarding the parking issue outside the school after being contacted by a parent.  A report had been sent in reply, pointing out that the issue was longstanding and a solution needed to be found.  SE added that the DDC Environmental Highways Dept. were now looking at a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), this would mean the extension of the zigzag markings and placing of appropriate signage as soon as it had been put out for public consultation and approved by all appropriate parties.  Civil Attendants would be able to attend and deal with any offences.  Until the TRO is accepted our ‘hands are tied’.

Any other business
SE informed the meeting of ‘Community SpeedWatch’.  This scheme was up and running in many of the villages. The training would be given by the Sgt and then the volunteers actually use the equipment and fill in the appropriate paperwork. A PCSO would be in attendance to assist. It was pointed out that there would be no enforcement, but a letter is sent out to the driver to inform them of their speed. (more…)

Following a spate of lead theft from churches in the Derbyshire Dales, which we reported in a post last Wednesday, police officers have arrested a 22-year-old man from Alfreton and charged him with allegedly stealing lead from a church.  At about 1.15am on Monday 17th May, patrolling officers saw a suspicious Vauxhall Corsa driving through Tansley. They followed and found it abandoned nearby.  A quantity of lead was found inside the car.  It was later discovered that lead had been stolen from the roof of St Helen’s Church, Church Town, Darley Dale.  The man is due to appear before magistrates in Chesterfield next month.

Derbyshire Prepared

A new website has been launched to help keep Derbyshire residents prepared and informed before, during and after major incidents such as severe weather and flooding. The site is called ‘Derbyshire Prepared’ and will include up-to-the minute information about ongoing incidents, useful contacts and advice for residents and businesses.

It has been developed by members of Derbyshire’s Local Resilience Forum (LRF) – the police and emergency services, Derbyshire County Council, city, district and borough councils, health agencies, the Environment Agency and Highways Agency. These groups already work together to manage incidents like severe weather, flooding, large fires, chemical spills or explosions but the website will allow residents to check information quickly and easily in one place.

The website features a range of information including:
* Safety tips and advice to help residents be well prepared for an emergency
* Advice and support for businesses on preparing business continuity plans
* Information for anyone organising a large community event
* The emergency plans Derbyshire has in place to deal with any major incident
* How to sign up to a community messaging service which can send residents text or e-mail alerts about incidents in their post code area
* Useful contacts and links to other relevant websites & incidents in the county and the new website will help get information out quickly and efficiently.

Residents are encouraged to sign up to the community messaging service to receive phone or e-mail alerts if incidents happen where they live.  Anyone can receive these alerts and they are often very useful.  We do publish relevant ones on the blog.

Avoid a Parking Fine in Ashbourne

This email has just come in from the Police Community Messaging Service.

Police in Ashbourne are warning motorists that they risk a fine, points on their licence or even a court appearance if they park illegally. Officers have received reports from concerned motorists and residents about drivers who have been parking on stretches of Derby Road where there is a solid white line in the centre of the road.

Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team Sgt. Steve Edwards said: “In particular the issue is on the hill stretch of Derby Road where there is a double white line system. Officers have been moving vehicles on but drivers are continuing to ignore the warnings. “White lines are there for a very good safety reason and as part of our commitment to reduce road casualties we will be strongly enforcing the rules. “We will also be targeting those vehicles which are parked half on the pavement, because while they are trying to keep the road free they are inconveniencing pedestrians as well as compromising road safety.” Parking on a stretch of road where there are either solid double white lines or solid single white lines is an offence which attracts a £60 fine and three penalty points on driving licences.

Latest Update from your
Safer Neighbourhood Officer

March/April 2010

.
.

Dear Resident

March and April has been fairly quiet regarding incidents, but nevertheless a few more have occurred since the last newsletter, so below is a brief update.

On 14/3 it was reported that an aggressive dog was on the Tissington Trail, the caller, quiet rightly was concerned for the safety of trail users. After a bit of digging regarding previous complaints, the owner of the dog was advised and the DDDC Dog Warden was informed.

A female was arrested for possession of cannabis and dealt with via a formal cannabis warning on Dovedale car park. She was discovered by an Officer on routine mobile patrol, she had walked there from Ashbourne, this was on 20/3 at approximately 1.30am

A vehicle was stolen from Thorpe area; Staffordshire Police dealt with the incident as it was on the Staffs side of the River Dove, but passed details to Derbyshire Police for observations. This is a fine example of both Constabularies working together. The theft took place on 28/3 and was reported at 19.41hrs by the owner. Enquiries are ongoing and hopefully to a successful conclusion.

On the same day a little earlier there was a RTC (road traffic collision) in the car park of the Dog and Partridge ph. There were no injuries.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) contacted the Police to inform us that two young boys had fallen from the quad bike. They had been picked up by a kind local farmer who had taken them to his farm at Pikehall. One boy had a head injury and both were in shock. They were eventually taken to Chesterfield Hospital. Neither was wearing crash helmets, both boys were advised accordingly by the Paramedics treating their injuries. It is vital that all quad bike users wear the appropriate equipment, as this will protect them and hopefully prevent serious injury. The incident took place on private land. Many thanks to the farmer who helped the emergency services. (more…)

          Latest Update from your
          Safer Neighbourhood Officer
          February 2010

.

.Dear Resident

February has been cold and snowy, but I feel spring is on its way….the daffodils and snowdrops are fighting their way through.

In Ashbourne town centre the annual Royal Shrovetide Football took place; all went well, with not too many injuries or issues of anti-social behaviour. The crowds were good humoured and the Police and Shrovetide Committee all worked well together to deliver a fun two days in the town.

Back to more mundane issues now….mud on the highways and lanes of our villages! There have been several ‘calls for service’ from members of the public regarding farm vehicles leaving mud, silage and slurry during ‘muck spreading’ time, this is a rural community and to expect clear, spotless roads is not feasible, but if the drivers of the tractors could just make sure that they do not leave too much mess, I believe this would satisfy members of the public. The most calls we have received have been around the Fenny Bentley A515 stretch.

A dead badger was found on the road between Gag Lane and Rakes Lane on the 19/2, this was discovered by Police whilst on duty. If anyone does find a dead badger on the road (they can be rather large) please could you inform DDCC or Call DERBYSHIRE they are a hazard for traffic especially when it is dark. (more…)

A scam to be aware of.

An Ashbourne resident was recently subjected to a simple yet effective scam whilst out shopping at Tescos in Uttoxeter. Payment was made for items at the cigarette kiosk and two different cards were used. The resident then went to the car park, placed her handbag on the passenger seat and the other items purchased in the boot. The car was then locked and the trolley returned to the nearby trolley park.

On returning to the car and unlocking it, a female of eastern European appearance suddenly appeared by her side and asked for directions, waving a road map about. These were given before getting in the car and driving off. Fortunately, the resident went immediately to the petrol station and on paying for her fuel noticed that the two cards she had used in Tescos were missing from her purse. The cards were cancelled but whilst doing so, the offenders were taking several hundred pounds from the accounts using the cash machines on site.

It is believed that the female asking for directions was a distraction whilst an accomplice entered the car from the passenger side and removed the cards from her purse. Everything else was left, giving the offenders more time to use the cash machines before the theft was discovered. They must have been stood nearby when the cards were used and noted the PIN numbers as they were put in.

Please be extra vigilant.

Thank you.  PC 1288 Bointon, Ashbourne Police Station

Latest update from your Safer Neighbourhood Officer

December 2009/January 2010

 .

.

 Dear Resident

Happy New Year from your Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team!

During the month of December several incidents of flooding (due to a blocked drain) on Spend Lane were reported by drivers, residents and the local Water Bailiff. The issue was also raised at the Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team Governance Meeting held on 9 December 2009 at Fenny Bentley School. Also mentioned was the missing ‘Warning’ sign from the A515 opposite Valley View, Fenny Bentley. All relevant agencies have been informed and hopefully the issues will soon be rectified.

The B5056 to Bakewell is still closed to traffic and this has caused many logistical issues. On 1st December a track machine being used by the workmen at the site of the landslide had its windscreen stolen. This is not common practice around this area, but it does happen!.

On 31st December at approximately 7pm at Mappleton a suspicious incident was reported. A resident was walking through the village, when a male pulled up in silver estate car and asked if they would like a lift to Ashbourne, offer refused and the vehicle drove away.

Dog fouling! ….this is happening at Fenny Bentley on a regular basis on the lane leading to Ashes Farm Barn. Please be considerate and think of the children, walkers and residents that enjoy the area.

If anyone has any information regarding these incidents please contact Ashbourne Police on 0345 123 33 33. Other useful numbers are at the bottom of this post.

On a lighter note, the Mappleton New Years Day Boat Race and Bridge Jump was a great success although it was very, very cold; apparently the water was the coldest for many years. No incidents were reported at the event.

At Fenny Bentley on 1st January a vehicle skidded off the road and damaged a fence, no injuries but a narrow escape for the driver. Two days later another vehicle skidded off the road into a garden, down a steep bank, again no serious injuries; this was at Kniveton during the day at around 1pm. (more…)

The representative Harfan Kapoor from DDDC, Sir Richard Fitzherbert and the Police were in the process of arranging a meeting to discuss the matter before the end of the month.

Quiet Lanes
PC Ian Cooper would be furthering his investigations regarding the above and will report back at the next meeting with his findings. (more…)

Update from your Safer Neighbourhood Officer
November/December 2009

During the month of November there have been several incidents to report. On the 5th the Derby Mountain Rescue Team were dispatched to Dovedale near to Lion Rock where a 16 year old female had fallen and sustained back injuries. The Air Ambulance was also in attendance.
