Telephone directory deliveries will be taking place in will be taking place in out area from 6th October over a 2-3 weeks period. Whilst delivery agents are advised not to leave these directories on view from the street, it is likely there will be instances of books being left outside which may be seen as a sign that a property may be empty. If you go on holiday or are away consider having an arrangement with a trusted neighbour to keep an eye open for these signs to help protect your property.

At the last Parish Council meeting (held on September 8th), PC Cooper presented various pieces of information regarding various traffic concerns.

Following the concerns raised at the open meeting, a speed survey was carried out. Statistically, the speed and the number of incidents reported do not highlight a problem.

The Parish Council would like to make people aware of the need to report any concerns.

Illegal Rave

Thank you to a local resident for supplying the following:

Thought it may be of interest to let you know that on Saturday night (and very early hours of Sunday) 12th September in a quarry near Roystone Grange/Minninglow there was an illegal rave.

The music was extremely loud and started around 1am and continued to 5.30am. We reported it to the police and they have confirmed today (Monday) that it was an illegal rave and they have gained intelligence on it and have names and vehicle details but are unable to do anything.

It is perhaps worth people being vigilant as I think the organizers send someone round scouting for a good place a couple of nights before the event.

There are no further details on the Derbyshire Police website, but if you have anything to report the contact numbers are

  • Emergency – 999
  • Crimestoppers – 0800 555 111
  • Ashbourne Police Station – 0345 123 3333

At the moment our area continues to have a low number of crimes and incidents being reported to Police. We have had our most recent Community Forum, and have a new concern raised by the public to concentrate on. Some work has been done in relation to road safety issues, again some items as a result of concerns raised by yourselves.

  • More bikes were taken on the 17th July.
  • We have also had a couple of bikes taken from outside houses on the edge of Ashbourne, so please put your bikes away, out of sight and locked up.

Crime rates fall again

Crime in the Derbyshire Dales has gone down even further – boosting figures that were already lower than almost anywhere else in England.

  •  Overall crime in the Dales is down by 7% on a year ago.
  • Derbyshire Dales has the lowest rate of vehicle theft in England and Wales – only one theft per thousand people
  • Dales residents are also the least likely in England and Wales to be the victim of a robbery, with only 11 such offences last year.

The following news item was posted today by the Derbyshire Constabulory:

Campers looking to stay at Parwich this weekend for the last few days of the annual Wakes week (June 26, 27 and 28) are being advised to stay at authorised campsites.

Local residents have said they are concerned people may be tempted to pitch in unofficial areas such as the football pitch or in farmers’ fields.

PC Ian Cooper, of the Tissington and area Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Please stick to authorised campsites around the village and surrounding area as no camping will be allowed on the village football field or on private farmland without permission.

“Parents should also make sure that their youngsters are camping at suitable locations and with permission if necessary.”

police-safer-neighbourhood-logo                       Update from your local officer

There are only a few incidents to report to you this month, along with a couple of bits that may be of interest to you.
Sometime between the 31st May and 3rd June 2009 someone stole the number plates off a Peugeot car, parked in Mappleton village. Both front and rear plates were taken. The number plates are still outstanding. We have been making enquiries with nearby Police Forces and enquiries are still ongoing.

We’ve had some excellent calls about suspicious characters, including a couple of males at Bradbourne, who were stopped and checked out a short distance away. We also had a call about a suspicious caller at Newton Grange. He was from outside our area, but he was visited by Police covering his home County, and was checked by them for us. Their details have been noted. Please keep ringing in and reporting your suspicions. (more…)

Update from your local Officer         June 2009

Over the past month it has been fairly quiet. We’ve had just one incident involving thefts. Overnight on 9th May 2009, someone stole aerials from cars parked at The Dog and Partridge, Thorpe. We have, in recent months, had a couple of incidents involving prowlers within Thorpe village. Please ring us if you disturb someone or have any suspicions about persons around the village at night. We recently received a good call from a member of the public in Kniveton. They were reporting a suspicious person approaching premises in the village. Police attended and checked the person out. He turned out to be the owner of the property. We really don’t mind attending these calls. Genuine people don’t mind being checked, and most find it reassuring that people take the time to notice things and ring us. (more…)

May’s Newsletter from PC Ian Cooper

police-safer-neighbourhood-logo Update from your local Officer         May 2009

Over the past month we have had more incidents than in recent months, with some thefts, damage, and suspicious prowlers. The A515 has also seen a few Road Traffic Collisions.

Overnight on Saturday 14th March 2009, damage was caused to some fencing at a farm between Tissington Village and the Ford. The damage appeared to be a deliberate act rather than accident damage. Damage, in the form of graffiti, occurred between 24th and 30th March 2009 in Fenny Bentley. The bus shelter seat, speed limit signs and bridge were sprayed with grey and black painted ‘tags’. Thorpe has also been the location for further damage, with a Vauxhall Cavalier car being scratched whilst parked on Church Lane, sometime between 11th and 13th April 2009. If anyone has seen anyone acting suspiciously in these areas, around these times please let me know. (more…)

At Thursday night’s Annual Parish Council meeting, the problems of our “temporary” traffic lights were discussed at length.

These first set of lights going towards Ashbourne but after Bradbourne Mill – the road should be sorted by late summer.

As for the second set of lights nearer to Bentley Brook, there is no timescale as to when reconstruction will take place.

It was acknowledged that the lights are often faulty, which could lead to a serious accident – so can we all start reporting these faults

PC Ian Cooper said that after every report, the police will check the lights and then the contractor will go out and readjust the lights.

Please only report them if they are faulty, and not just if you think they are too slow at turning green. That way, maybe we will end up with reliable lights – but this is obviously going to be a long term issue.

Please ring the Call Derbyshire number: 08456 058 058 or 01629 760247. The County Council call centre staff with then get someone to look at the issue. The same number can be used for potholes and icy roads.

Update from your local officer  –  April 2009

We’ve had a quieter time over the past few weeks.   At around 0520 hrs on the 3rd March 2009, at Parwich, a local resident was disturbed by clattering and banging outside.  He saw a vehicle drive away from the area, which was described as a small reddish van.  The van left as the house lights were switched on.  Details were passed to us, and it has resulted in some good intelligence with liaison with other Police Forces.  No offences were committed around the area that night but it was an excellent call to us.  At Kniveton, during the 5th March 2009, a property at Kniveton was visited by two suspicious men claiming to be there to check on the Burglar alarm.  The occupier was not present and the person who dealt with them refused them entry.  If you are ever in doubt with unexpected callers always make them stand on the doorstep, until you have checked out their identification with their company, or with us. Police Newsletter – March 2009

police-safer-neighbourhood-logo Update from your local Officer, March 2009.

We have a few bits to report this month. A couple of crimes, a road traffic collision, a bit of nuisance, and a very enjoyable evening.

Overnight on the 29th January 2009, the Bentley Brook Inn was broken into and items stolen. Some of the stolen property was found abandoned at Cubley. Staffordshire have also suffered a number of burglaries, and car crimes that are similar to ours. We have had some extra patrols out, at the same time as Staffs Police, to try and combat this and gain intelligence and trace possible offenders. (more…)

Update on thefts

New information has come to light about the theft of stone from a property at Brassington and a stone birdbath from Parwich on Tuesday 27th January 2009.

The circumstances are that at Brassington, the offender(s) stole two decorative capping stones and attempted to steal a stone ball from the gate pillars.   At Parwich, the large bird bath was stolen from the front garden of the property.

The two capping stones were recovered in Newhaven. It is believed that a red Toyota Hilux vehicle may have been involved.

Anyone who can assist in this investigation should contact PC 151 Terry Holgate at Ashbourne Police Station on 0345 123 33 33, quoting crime numbers 5219/09 and 5270/09.

Across our Section we have, in recent weeks had a few cars broken into, and a few outbuildings broken into in rural locations. Some have occurred on our area, and are worth mentioning to you. (more…)

Gate theft from Parwich

During the evening of Wednesday 10th December 2008 someone stole a farm gate from a field entrance on the edge of Parwich. The gate had been fitted so it could not be simply lifted off its hinges like many. The thieves would have needed a hammer or tools and abit of time to remove it and then take it away.

As you leave Parwich towards Ballidon, you get to the sharp right hand bend/triangle, with a lane off to the left. If you turn left, towards Pikehall, the gate was the first on the left.

If anyone saw any persons or vehicles in suspicious circumstances, at that location, on that evening (in particular between 8.30 – 9.45 pm), can they please contact me on 0345 123 33 33.

Can people be aware that agricultural type thefts seem to be on the increase. If they see anything that is suspicious in any way please ring us at the time.

Please note the new number 0345, instead of 0845.  I’m told its even cheaper to contact us now.

Thanks    Ian COOPER PC 1525

Christmas Crime Prevention

The Police remind everyone that Christmas is not a good time to forget your normal security measures:

As the festive season rapidly approaches, the criminal opportunists in our communities will be preparing to take advantage of the fact that we are all busy getting ready for the celebrations, so we should be extra security conscious.

In one in three burglaries, the thief doesn’t have to force entry to gain access to a home, as residents leave windows or doors open when they are out or in another part of the house. Prevention need not cost money, simply closing and locking doors is sufficient to prevent these unwanted incidents occurring.
