Our Weatherman in the Village says:

The wet weather continued this week with nearly two inches of rain recorded. A brief respite looks likely Monday and Tuesday, but more wet and windy weather is forecast for the middle of the week.

Our weatherman says:

The past week was even wetter than the previous week, continuing the damp start to 2014. The good news is that we might see less rain in the coming week (not difficult). The bad news is that it will be colder!

Our Weatherman in the Village is reassuring about the prospect of snow, but warns of more rain:

Don’t be fooled by the settled weather today (Sunday) as there’s another Atlantic depression and front sweeping in from the west to bring more wet and windy weather later today and tonight. The coming week will be punctuated by more of the same – wet, windy and relatively mild. At least we’re not battling the snow!

Thank you David G for these photos of this frosty Sunday morning, is this the the start of colder weather, with perhaps Ski Sunday next weekend?

Northern Lights over Parwich tonight?

A number of news reports today have suggested that tonight (Thursday) could be our best chance in years to see the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. It is thought that the best time for viewing will probably be between midnight and 3am, and the Met Office’s current cloud cover forecast bodes well for our area.

If we do strike it lucky, any photo or video evidence would be greatly appreciated!

For more info, read the news reports in The Guardian / The Independent / The Telegraph.

For more alerts as the night progresses, Lancaster University’s AuroraWatch project has a regularly updated Facebook page, Twitter feed and website.

Our weatherman says:

Happy wet New Year! The past week seems to have been very wet, and the ground is certainly waterlogged. Looks like another low pressure system will be tracking to the north, bringing more rain later today (Sunday), but hopefully the coming week will not be quite as bad as last.

Weekly Weather Stats: December 15th to 21st

20131222-120024.jpg

Our weatherman says:

We’ve turned the corner, and the lights are now getting lighter, thank goodness – next stop Wakes!

After a pretty wet and miserable mid-winter week last week, the forecast is for lower temperatures with blustery conditions for the coming Christmas week. Indeed, the temperatures may well be low enough for some of the showers to fall as sleet or wet snow – so we might just get some white stuff on Christmas Day – with a better chance over the tops outside the village. Ho ho ho…..!

20131027-111103.jpg

Our weatherman says:

With 2.74 inches of rain through the week, it has been very soggy! The impending deep low coming in from the south west looks at the moment to be tracking a bit further south than previously predicted, which hopefully means we might be spared the worst of the wind tonight and tomorrow morning (although it does look like we’ll get very wet again). Deep Atlantic depressions are certainly not unusual at this time of year, but this one looks a little more extreme. The south of the country will be very stormy tonight. The rest of the week looks like being wet, windy and still mild.

Stats13Oct13

Our Weatherman in the Village says:

Not a particularly pleasant week in prospect. The calm autumn of recent weeks has broken, and a pattern of wet and windy weather looks like it has settled in. The only saving grace is that the temperatures are not too low. Personally I would sacrifice the mild temperatures for some crisp clam and cold autumn conditions!
