Subject to final approval at the next Parish Council meeting the Village Bonfire and fireworks will take place on Parson’s Croft on Sunday 5th November from 6pm.

There will be a bonfire, best guy competition (£5 prize), fireworks, raffle and refreshments.

Due to insurance costs and health and safety requirements we will be holding a raffle and have donation tins located around the site; please donate so we can continue to provide these events in the village. Please note that our insurance states that people must not bring their own fireworks to the site, this includes sparklers.

The bonfire site is the same as last year and is clearly visible so please bring along any dry wood, logs or dead branches but DO NOT bring anything with metal and nails such as mattresses, pallets or sofas.

Thank you and see you there!

Any questions please email Lucy at lucywigley@googlemail.com

Harvest Festival and Auction

We have received this from the Legion…..

OH, WHAT A SPREAD!!!

A massive congratulations to everyone involved in Sunday evenings Harvest Festival Auction of Produce which raised a cracking £700 for village good causes.

We say welcome and thank you to our new vicar, Rev Carollyn McDonald who opened proceedings by giving the Blessing – we feel that this will be a long and happy friendship and we can always find room for a camper van if you fancy trying a drop of something warming anytime.

If Heineken did auctioneers, it would be our very master of the gavel, Paul Cooper, who once again succeeded in whipping people into a frenzy of bidding fury – we bow to your expertise. He was ably assisted by our own dolly dealer Gill Evans, who also put together the fabulous packages donated by the Legion.

Special mention must be made to the Horticultural Society, who this year decided to combine their annual show with our own event. An overwhelming turnout in entries meant that their generosity in passing produce onto the auction swelled the coffers significantly.

And finally to everyone else who baked, made, grew, harvested, helped, bid, spent…….the list goes on and on and apologies to anyone we’ve missed.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for once again making our Harvest Festival a thoroughly heart warming and humbling occasion.

Transport for Early Drinkers

Beer festival special offer from Derbyshire Connect bus service

Real ale-lovers travelling to Ashbourne beer festival are being offered a special fare on Derbyshire’s new, flexible bus service.

Derbyshire Connect is a bookable bus service rather than a conventional timetabled one. It takes passengers to and from their chosen pick-up points and destinations on their preferred days and times.
The beer festival takes place at Ashbourne Town Hall from 21 to 23 September 2017. Travellers to the festival will pay a special £1 single fare, instead of the usual £2, up to 7pm on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Derbyshire Connect runs weekdays from 7am to 7pm and Saturdays 8am to 7pm. There is no Sunday service. It was launched on a 12-month trial basis in the Ashbourne and Wirksworth areas in February, as far north as Hartington.
The 15-seater bus is fully accessible for passengers in wheelchairs. It can also carry bikes for people who do not wish to make return trips.
Derbyshire Connect bookings can be made by emailing bookings@derbyshireconnect.org.uk or tel: 01335 342951.
