Ladies of Parwich go moonwalking… in their bras!
Posted in Events, People on Wednesday April 8, 2009| 1 Comment »
Sandra and Rebecca are doing the Moonwalk in London on May 16th. They will be walking a full marathon length of 26+ miles, starting at midnight, to raise money for Breast Cancer projects.
Here is a picture of them in training on the Tissington Trail. As it is traditional to do the Moonwalk in decorated bras, they will post a photo of themselves in their bras on this web site when they have raised sufficient funds… so watch this space!
Sandra and Rebecca are having a coffee morning at Knob Hall on Thursday 23rd April from 9am to 12 noon, where you can sponsor them, buy cakes and raffle tickets.
Alternatively, you can sponsor them online by following this link.
More information about the moonwalk is available here.

Posted in A52s, Church, Events, Music, Oddfellows on Sunday April 5, 2009| Leave a Comment »
On Sunday 26th April Parwich village will be celebrating St George’s Day with a day full of events. It starts at 10.15am with an Oddfellows parade from The British Legion, accompanied by Doveholes Brass Band. Everyone is invited to join in this procession, and children are encouraged to dress up either as St George or the dragon!
At 11am there is a special service in the Church, and we are all invited to join the Oddfellows and Cyberscouts.
The procession continues around the village stopping at various points.
Between 1.30 & 3pm the Winster Morris Dancers will be performing. Lunches are available from the Sycamore Inn.
From 2pm there will be a Church Fete with stalls on The Green. Cream Teas will be available during the afternoon.
There will be live music in the Village Hall and the A52s (well known local band) will be on The Green.
The children’s Fancy Dress costumes will be judged by The Oddfellows.
Here is part of a video created by Martin C taken at last year’s Oddfellow’s parade at the start of Wakes Week, in June.

Final Lent Lunch – This Thursday
Posted in Church, Events on Sunday March 22, 2009| Leave a Comment »
This is the final Lent Lunch of the year and it is being held at John & Marion Fuller-Sessions – Orchard Farm. Pop in anytime on Thursday 26th March from 12.30pm, with lunch finishing at 2pm. (If you know that you are definitely coming let Marion know on 519 – but otherwise just pop in – there will be plenty of food!!) Enjoy a range of cheeses, pates and bread – more fun that making your own lunch.
You don’t have to be a member of the Church to enjoy this lunch; it is a community event to raise funds for Church repairs (via a donation for the lunch). After all, we like seeing the Church in our village – so let’s help keep it in good repair. Everyone is welcome, including children.

Thanks are also due to Richard Hobday at White Peak Farm Butchery in Tissington, for generously donating the beef at cost price.

Dave Woolley, Val Stevenson and Nia Linnell would like to invite all would-be thespians to a meeting in the pub at 7pm on Friday 27th February.
It has been a long time since there was a village production and it is our intention to `write` and produce a suitable play starring those willing to make a fool of themselves!
Secondary age school children are also invited.
Rehearsals will only be held at the weekends and it is intended that there will be 2 or 3 performances mid-May.
Monies made from the sale of the tickets and half time refreshments will go towards the Memorial Hall Rebuild Fund.
If you can’t attend on Friday but are interested in having a part, or even working backstage, please can you let one of us know so we can bear you in mind for casting.

Parwich Alternative Film Show: Friday Feb 27th.

Our next “alternative” film tells the story of the legendary singer Edith Piaf.
From the slums of Paris to the limelight of New York, Edith Piaf’s life was a battle to sing and survive, live and love. Raised in poverty, Edith’s magical voice and her passionate romances and friendships with the greatest names of the period — Yves Montand, Jean Cocteau, Charles Aznavour, Marlene Dietrich, Marcel Cerdan and others — made her a star all around the world. But in her audacious attempt to tame her tragic destiny, the “Little Sparrow” — her nickname — flew so high she could not fail to burn her wings.
