Last Sunday, a small team of ‘professional’ Parwich cameramen were asked to make a video record of the St. George’s Day Parade. The exercise was meticulously planned and good vantage points were identified the day before. One of these points happened to be the bell tower of St. Peter’s Church, providing a rather interesting panorama of the village. In addition to the filming, our roving reporter took a few still pictures to share with you.

Sandra and Rebecca would like to thank everyone who very generously supported their coffee morning to raise money and sponsorship for taking part in the London Moonwalk. They collected a massive total of £440.30 in the morning in donations, sponsorship, cake stall and raffle.

All the proceeds are going to breast cancer projects supported by the Moonwalk. Together with sponsorship already collected they are getting dangerously close to reaching their target at which they promised to post a picture of them in their decorated bras in which they will walk a full marathon length circuit around the streets of London, starting at Midnight on May 16th.

Here is a picture of them taken just before they polished off all the left-over cakes and biscuits.

stgeorgeAs we have seen from earlier posts there will be a fun packed day on Sunday 26th April, starting with a Procession at 10.15am from The British Legion to the Church, led by the Oddfellows, Cyberscouts and Doveholes Brass Band, everyone else is then invited to join in.  Hopefully there will be lots of children dressed up as St George or The Dragon on their way to the Church Service at 11am.

During the afternoon the Winster Morris Men and the A52’s will be entertaining us with live dancing & live music whilst the Church Fete is being held on The Green (if wet in The Church).

There are lots of attractions including Face Painting, Local Handmade Candles, Jewellery, lots of games including Famous Faces, Hoop-la, Box & Beanbag, a Crown Derby Raffle and Tombola.

A fete wouldn’t be complete with a Home-produce stall, so all cakes, jams, chutneys etc would be gratefully received.  The Second Hand stall also needs plenty of bits, so you have a week to rake out those cupboards, lofts & garages for all those bits that you really don’t need, but others would love – Go rumaging!!

There will be an icecream van on The Green whilst Teas are available in The Church, whilst there you can enjoy seeing the Model Railway which has been especially set up for the ocassion.

What is needed – Home-made produce, Second Hand goods & Tombola Prizes

Sandra and Rebecca are doing the Moonwalk in London on May 16th. They will be walking a full marathon length of 26+ miles, starting at midnight, to raise money for Breast Cancer projects.

Here is a picture of them in training on the Tissington Trail. As it is traditional to do the Moonwalk in decorated bras, they will post a photo of themselves in their bras on this web site when they have raised sufficient funds… so watch this space!

(Please click to enlarge.)

Sandra and Rebecca are having a coffee morning at Knob Hall on Thursday 23rd April from 9am to 12 noon, where you can sponsor them, buy cakes and raffle tickets.

Alternatively, you can sponsor them online by following this link.

More information about the moonwalk is available here.

It starts at 10.15am with an Oddfellows parade from The British Legion, accompanied by Doveholes Brass Band. Everyone is invited to join in this procession, and children are encouraged to dress up either as St George or the dragon!

At 11am there is a special service in the Church, and we are all invited to join the Oddfellows and Cyberscouts.

The procession continues around the village stopping at various points.

Between 1.30 & 3pm the Winster Morris Dancers will be performing.  Lunches are available from the Sycamore Inn.

From 2pm there will be a Church Fete with stalls on The Green. Cream Teas will be available during the afternoon.

There will be live music in the Village Hall and the A52s (well known local band) will be on The Green.

Cracking Easter holiday events at Peak District Visitor Centres

Spring Fun Days at Peak District National Park visitor centres will show how nature stages its own Easter egg-stravaganza in the wild.

Children can join in free fun activities while learning how to protect wild birds and other creatures at this crucial time of year for raising young in the national park. Games, competitions, painting, mask-making and nature walks will all be on offer. Along the way, youngsters can learn the importance of keeping dogs on leads so they do not disturb nests, cutting down on fire-risks and caring for the countryside.

pates3This is the final Lent Lunch of the year and it is being held at John & Marion Fuller-Sessions – Orchard Farm.  Pop in anytime on Thursday 26th March from 12.30pm, with lunch finishing at 2pm.   (If you know that you are definitely coming let Marion know on 519 – but otherwise just pop in – there will be plenty of food!!) Enjoy a range of cheeses, pates and bread – more fun that making your own lunch.

You don’t have to be a member of the Church to enjoy this lunch; it is a community event to raise funds for Church repairs (via a donation for the lunch). After all, we like seeing the Church in our village – so let’s help keep it in good repair.  Everyone is welcome, including children.

Our thanks go to Patti and Brian Beasley, for hosting such an enjoyable – and delicious! – fund-raising evening, in aid of the Memorial Hall redevelopment project. Those who attended feasted themselves on Beef Goulash with dumplings and red cabbage, followed by Apple Strudel and whipped cream.

Thanks are also due to Richard Hobday at White Peak Farm Butchery in Tissington, for generously donating the beef at cost price.

As part of the BBC’s Video Nation project, Lewis has been filmed at work on the collection, and talking about the creative processes that were involved. Click here to watch the five-minute film.
