Parwich Olympiad

Thank you to our Bowling Correspondent for the following:

Now you thought that all the olympic games were down in London. How wrong can you be. Here in Parwich in the upgraded Crown Green Bowling venue a little bit of history was also being made. Edith Rider and Ian Johnston a scratch pair of bowlers came strong in the end to win the Square Robin event on Sunday 5 August 2012. We will all remember where we were on that great day. From an enormous field of 5 pairs they won by one point. The crowd went wild. You could hear the cheers, drowning out the sound coming from the y-not concert down the road. Afterwards Ian said he owed all his success to his midwife 73 years ago.

One Down & One Up

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

Having started the season poorly we managed to get better, however we appear, on occasions, to be going backwards with a vengeance.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Away – 31 July – Matlock Golf Club.

Have you ever played in a match or a sport where whatever you did you were on a hiding to nothing? This match was one of those. We did not play badly, but our opponents could do no wrong. The outcome of the match was never in doubt, Matlock won by a country mile and we had our worst score of the season. For the record Matlock 68, Parwich 44, our lowest score of the year. Looking at the fixture list I’m not sure we will do very much better next week. I suppose we can always take up double slalom canoeing or trap shooting!

Next match – Home – Whitworth Park – 7 August 6.30pm.

Thursday League.
Home – Chatsworth – 2 August.

At least we pulled ourselves together for this match. Chatsworth were third in the league, but we had a good win. In the doubles we only won one out of the three games and trailed by 54 to 38, but we had a cracking time in the singles winning five out of the six games. The overall final score was Parwich 124 to Chatsworth 115. Our average score this year in the Thursday League is 124 so we should remain about half way, all being well. No Thursday League match next week, it is the Annual charity competition to raise money for the Greenaway Centre. I’ll let you know how we get on.

Next match – Greenaway Charity Match – 9 August.

Lovely day last Sunday entertaining Ashbourne in a friendly. This Sunday we are playing our annual square robin competition. Not sure if the weather is going to be all that great though. We start at Parsons Croft at 10.30am. Bring your umbrella!

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

Having played in all sorts of weather it feels strange to be able to dispense with the oil skins and wellies. Not complaining, however. We managed a win and a loss this week.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Home – 24 July – Bakewell.

Bakewell were, a few places ahead of us in the league. We had a good evening winning three out of the four games. Giving a final result of Parwich 72 Bakewell 60. I think that with the 12 point difference in the scores we should move above them in the league.

Next match – Away – Matlock Golf Club – 31 July 6.30pm.

Thursday League.
Away – Matlock Golf Club – 26 July.

Another team who are ahead of us in the league, but not such a good result as the Tuesday match. We did not manage to win any doubles games although we came close in one. We were 63 to 43 behind. We faired a little better in the six singles games sharing them three each. The scores were Parwich 72 Matlock 68. This made the final score 131 to Matlock, 115 to Parwich. We are back at the Golf Club on Tuesday next week. Hopefully we will do better.

Next match – Away – Matlock Golf Club – 31 July – 1.45pm.

A good day was had by all last Sunday when we played Hazelwood in a friendly. This Sunday we entertain Ashbourne. Come along to Parsons Croft and relax in the sun you will be fed up with the Olympics by then. Usual start 2.00pm.

Well at least we managed one match in the dry. Although can we expect more sun filled games in the future? Two losses this week, but both matches were against teams either top or near the top of the leagues.

Matlock Tuesday League – Away – 17 July – Bradwell.
As I have said in the past the venue at Bradwell is quite spectacular, particularly when the sun shines. Fortunately it did for the match albeit the result was not sunny. Anyway we did not managed to win a single game, but still achieved a reasonable score. Bradwell after all are top of the league by quite a margin. The result was 84 to 67 to Bradwell. Possibly drop a place in the league.
Next match – Home – Bakewell – 24 July 6.30pm.

Thursday League – Away – Whitworth Park – 19 July.

Although the final result was a loss we again scored reasonably, particularly in the singles. We won one doubles game, but the score was 61 to 48 against. In the singles we shared the games three all, but still lost 74 to 72. Overall the match was 135 to Whitworth, 120 to Parwich.
Next match – Away – Matlock Golf Club – 26 July – 1.45pm.

Another friendly this Sunday against Hazelwood. Looks like the sun may shine a bit as well.

Parwich Bowling Well

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

Two wins this week and one against a team who are second in the division. Still no let up in having to play in fur lined wellies most of the time though.

Matlock Tuesday League.

Home – 10 July – Chatsworth.

Chatsworth are nearly top of the league and soundly beat us on their green earlier in the season. However, we were able to take our revenge on our green. We won three out of the four games. Although we have managed to win a few games now we have not been scoring heavily and in the league its points that win prizes. Anyway a win is a win and we did it by 73 points to 58. We were exactly half way in the division and I don’t think we will move up from there.

Next match – Away – Bradwell -17 July 6.30pm.

Thursday League.

Home – Matlock Bath – 12 July.

Matlock were one place below us in the league before this match and the result will keep us there. We won two out of the three doubles but were still behind 45 to 48. Again our singles players did really well winning four out of the six games giving us an overall win 119 to 111. I think this win will keep us in our middle place in the league. To cap it all the sun shone as well!

Next match – Away – Whitworth Park – 19 July – 1.45pm.

We have a friendly match down at Parsons Croft this Sunday, we are entertaining Ashbourne Park. Come along and have a cup of tea with us all. 2.00pm Sunday.

The weather again played quite a part in this week’s matches. Thankfully we had our webbed feet on again.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Away – 26 June – Wirksworth.

The matches with Wirksworth are proving odd. This week we were away, but managed to win on their green. Considering it is one of the biggest greens in the league, no mean feat. To cap it all, we won by a greater margin away than we did last week at home!

We shared the games two each, but – as the saying goes – points mean prizes, and we got more, coming out winners by 70 to 56. As I said last week, although we won our points ‘for’ were low, and indeed we did drop a place in the league. With this again relatively low score, we may fall again. Now down to 7th.

Next match – Away – Matlock Park -3 July 6.30pm.

Thursday League.
Home – Chatsworth – 28 June.

We had to wait for the water on the green to dissipate before we could play; it was like a swimming pool. When we did get started, we really played well. This fixture at Chatsworth at the start of the season was not a good result for us. However, everybody played so well in the this match that we won all three doubles games, coming out on top 63 to 43.

In the six singles we won four out of six, giving us a score of 75 to 36. The overall match total was 138 to Parwich, 79 to Chatsworth, more than making up for the early season defeat.

Next match – Away – Matlock Park – 5 July – 1.45pm.

No Sunday match again this week, as it’s Wakes Week. Make sure you come and see us on Friday night to have a go, as part of the week’s celebrations. Have a good week.

Winning Ways with Wirksworth

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

By a quirk in the bowls fixtures mega computer, we play Wirksworth quite a few times in the next few days. Three to be precise, but first congratulations to Edith Rider and Dawn Allsopp for winning the Open Doubles last Sunday, beating Rick Manning and Pat Barnett in a very close final. Having lost both matches last week, thankfully we are back to winning ways, albeit only just.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Home – 19 June – Wirksworth.

I suppose a win is a win, but this was close. Both teams won two games each. Fortunately the points tally was just in our favour. We scraped through 66 to 63. We were exactly half way in the division, but I think this low scoring win will drop us down a place or two. I have no doubt that Wirksworth will seek to extract some revenge against us in next week’s match.

Next match – Away – Wirksworth -26 June  6.30pm.

Thursday League.
Away – Wirksworth – 21 June.

We were very lucky with the weather on Thursday afternoon. Missed the rain altogether. Perhaps we should flip a coin for the doubles games, as we never seem to get it together. Today was no exception. We lost two out of the three games, giving a score of 58 to 43 to our opponents.

In the singles we not only managed to address the 15 point deficit, but change it to a 20 point advantage, winning 69 to 49. The overall result was a win to Parwich by 112 to 107.

Next match – Home – Chatsworth – 28 June – 1.45pm.

No Sunday match this week as it’s Open Gardens, so make sure you buy a programme and a delicious cream tea. Enjoy the day.

No rain, no gain…

Whoops! I knew I spoke too soon. It did not rain and we lost both matches this week! Hope we have better results next week. I can’t believe we are half way through the season already.

Matlock Tuesday League.

Away – 12 June – Matlock Bath.

The green here is tiny and is shaped a bit like a 50p piece so there is no ‘corner to corner’ bowling. The contours are also very strange. You can send a bowl in a direction and the thing goes off on a totally different line. Suffice it to say we did not do well. Indeed we had our second worst score of the year so far. We only managed to win one game and did not do well in the three we lost! The final result was 81 to 58. This drops us to sixth place in the Division, exactly half way. Keep your fingers crossed for next week.

Next match – Home – Wirksworth – 6.30pm 19 June.

Thursday League.

Away – Baslow – 14 June.

Although we lost we did not achieve too bad a score, if that makes sense. We only won one of the three doubles games and shared the six singles three each. So though we lost we did get 119 points, which on some occasions is good enough to win a match. This time, however, Baslow got 137.

Next match – Away – Wirksworth – 21 June – 1.45pm.

In the Sunday competition Dot Hart played superb bowls to beat John Henbery in the final. The weather thankfully was kind to us and the tea sandwiches and cakes weren’t bad either.

Another competition this Sunday start 2.00pm. Not more tea and cakes to eat.

Singing & bowling in the rain?

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

For the first time this season we managed to win both our matches in the leagues. Having said that it must have been because we had better webbed feet than the opposition. Both games were played in the most appalling wet conditions.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Home – 5 June – Bradwell B.

Bradwell are/were slightly higher than us in the league. However we did win three out of the four games, only narrowly losing the fourth. Having played in gloriously warm sunshine the previous Tuesday it was a real battle against the elements as well as the opposition. The final score was 80 to Parwich and 62 to Bradwell. The result may have taken us a place higher in the league.

Next match – Away – Matlock Bath – 6.30pm 12 June.

Thursday League.
Home – Bakewell – 7 June.

We again had problems in the doubles games this week. We only just won one game; however, the scores were close in the other two so we were only 6 points behind. The weather from the start had been atrocious and got worse as the afternoon wore on. Trying to bowl was a bit of a lottery to say the least. In the end we won 4 out of the 6 singles giving us an overall win of 128 to 119.

Next match – Away – Baslow – 14 June – 1.45pm.

This Sunday we play another Club competition. Start time is 2.00pm Parsons Croft. Come along and have a look, and a cup of tea.

This week’s bowls report

We nearly managed to win both matches this week, missing out on one by a point. We did have some good individual games however.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Away – 29 May – Chatsworth.

This really is a nice place to play bowls, win or lose. The evening was gloriously warm and sunny. The match did not start well for us however, losing the first doubles game 21-8. The other three doubles came to our rescue and we finished 71 to Parwich 49 to Chatsworth. Four wins in a row now in this league. Having been down at the bottom of the League we are slowly making our up. Long may it continue.

Next match – Home – Bradwell B – 6.30pm 5 June.

Thursday League.
Away – Matlock Park – 31 May.

We do appear to be having problems trying to win the three doubles games you have to play in this league. Unfortunately we did not win one. The score after these games was 63 to 38. The cavalry in the form of the singles again came to our rescue winning 81 to 57. The final match score was therefore 120 to Matlock and 119 to Parwich. Not a bad result really considering we lost.

Next match – Home – Bakewell – 7 June – 1.45pm.

What a cracking time the Sheffield Caravan Group had last weekend. I think nearly all the members had a go. It was so nice to see the Green full of people who were enjoying themselves so much. A pity the people who live in the village do not seem to want to join in.

Mixed Fortunes

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

Fortunes have certainly changed dramatically in the two leagues we play in. At the start of the season we could not get a win in the Tuesday league for love nor money. Thankfully now winning a few and we did not lose in the other league. (we did not win either).

Matlock Tuesday League.
Home – 22 May – Ashwood Park.

Up until recently Ashwood have been our ‘bogie’ team. However hard we tried we did not win. This now seems to have changed. Although we shared the games two each, the ones we lost were marginal. Our points tally was a lot better than theirs. 80 points to Parwich, 70 to Ashwood. We are I believe slowly making our way up from the bottom of the league.

Next match – Away – Chatsworth – 6.30pm 29 May.

Thursday League.
Home – Lafarge Hope – 24 May.

Having said a couple of weeks ago that a draw was very unusual along comes another. We did not do well in the three doubles games, losing them two games to one and trailing by 8 points. We were rescued by the singles games winning four out of the six. Result, exactly the same as the previous drawn match 112 each. I think we may well slip even lower in the league if that is possible!

Away – Matlock Park – 31 May – 1.45pm.

We are having an away friendly with Ashbourne Park this Sunday it is usually a good afternoon and the weather looks set for us also.

Believe it or not the Green may well be used on Saturday also. Not by Parwich folk mores the pity, but by the Sheffield Caravan group. I hope they enjoy the experience, you never know as we can’t get people from the Village interested perhaps they might join the club. After all Sheffield is not far away.

Win one, lose one

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

What a pity more people did not turn up to see all the things available in the Village at the Parish Annual Meeting last Wednesday. Talk about conspicuous by their absence or what.

Anyway we had our first Club competition last Sunday and the Open Singles cup was superbly won by Dawn Allsopp. In a really good final Dawn Beat Rick Manning. A splendid afternoon was had by all.

Matlock Tuesday League.

Away – 15 May – Whitworth Park.

Our best win of the season so far and two wins in a row now. Whitworth had made a much better start to the season than we have. However, we managed to win three out of the four games, only narrowly losing the forth. The match result was Whitworth 61 Parwich 82 only two point off a maximum. Tough match next week though.

Next match – Home – Ashwood Park – 6.30pm 22 May.

Thursday League.

Away – Chatsworth – 17 May.

Having started well in this league the wheels are certainly falling off in the last two matches. Unfortunately we did not win any doubles games finishing up 23 points down. In the singles we did better, sharing the games three each, however Chatsworth won their games with a better points tally. The overall score in the match was Chatsworth 130 Parwich 97, our lowest score so far. Not sure if next week is going to be any better.

Home – Lafarge, Hope – 24 May – 1.45pm.

Nothing happening on the Green this weekend, however we will be there on Monday night at about 6.30pm.

Still can’t put two wins in a week together. One win one loss again.

Matlock Tuesday League. Home – 8 May – Matlock Golf Club.
We have broken our duck at last in this league and against a very good team. Although we shared the games two each we managed to win ours by a greater margin. The overall score was Parwich 76, Matlock 57.Let us hope that this will spur us on to the next match although our opponents are doing considerably better than us.
Next match – Away – Whitworth Park – 6.30pm 15 May.

Thursday League. Home – Matlock Golf Club – 10 May.
As the fixtures draw very often does it pitched us against  the Golf Club again, but in a different league. We have been going really well in this league and were close to the top of the division. Unfortunately we did not do ourselves justice. We lost the doubles games two to one. 37 points to us, 54 to the Golf Club. We shared the singles three each, The Golf Club’s scores were better than ours though. 72 to us and 77 to them. Overall therefore we lost 109 to 131. Following last weeks draw and this weeks loss I think we will drop quite a few places in the league.
Away – Chatsworth A – 17 May – 1.45pm.

On Sunday we are having our first Club competition. Parsons Croft 2.00pm. You can have a go at tennis then come over to the bowling green. Action packed weekend or what!

Don’t forget the Parish Annual meeting next week in the Memorial Hall.  We will be there trying to get you to come and join us.

Not only is the weather gloomy and hit and miss, so is our bowls matches. We do need new players to try to get us kick started. One loss one draw this week.

Matlock Tuesday League. Away – 1 May – Bakewell.
This is getting very predictable, we lost. Having said that based on past performance this was not as bad as it could have been. We won two games and Bakewell won two. Unfortunately our losses were heavier than theirs. The final result was Bakewell 79 Parwich 64. Bakewell are second in the division and we are second bottom. About right really, our form in this league will hopefully improve.
Next match – Home – Matlock Golf Club – 6.30pm 8 May.

Thursday League. Home – Whitworth Park – 3 May.
A very unusual result this week, no winner no looser, but a draw. We did not win any of the three doubles games which left us 32 to 63 behind. Our six singles players however came to the rescue giving us a score of 80 to 49. The overall result therefore 112 points each and it did not rain! Up to the start of this match we were second in the division so this score may drop us down a place or two. The fixture list has us playing another home match next week and as these things sometimes work out we are playing the Golf Club again. We had a supporter this week cheering us on. Well done Ron Twigg. Good to see you at the bowling green.
Home – Matlock Golf Club – 10 May – 1.45pm.

So apart from Ron the whole of Parwich is still watching the idiot’s lantern.  Did not think the license fee was that worthwhile. See you ‘not’ on any match day or on Monday nights at 6.30pm ish.

The Win One Lose One Continues

We seem to be in a bit of a ‘win one lose one’ loop at the moment and the lose one is thus far in the same league.

Matlock Tuesday League –  Home – 24 April – Bradwell A.
We cannot seem to get going in this league. Last year we started really well and were close to the top, but this year no good. Three matches three losses. Bradwell were relegated from the higher division last year and we could not do anything to win one game let alone the match. We lost all four games and the final result was Bradwell 84, Parwich 51. We must be holding everybody up at the bottom. I just keep hoping that the teams we have played thus far are the best in the league!
Next match – Away – Bakewell 1 May.

Thursday League – Away – Matlock Bath – 26 April.
What a contrast in this league. The weather was appalling and the green is very compact and tricky, but we steamed along! Although we only won one of the three doubles games are points scored were only 4 less than our opponents. The singles games were shared three each, however, our points scored were considerably more than Matlock. The final score was therefore Matlock 124, Parwich 135. Three wins so far out of four. Not bad.
Home – Whitworth Park – 3 May – 1.45pm.

I think everybody in Parwich must be watching some fabulous programme on the TV on Monday nights. Can you let me know which channel it’s on? Still nobody out there.

Win One, Lose One

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club
One win one loss this week. A little better than one win two losses last week. Anyway…..

Matlock Tuesday League.

Home – 17 April – Chatsworth A.

This team got relegated from the first division last season, but they still are very good. We did not manage to win a game. We came close in one game, but lost 84 to 48 in the end. Considering we finished fourth in the league last year we have not made a very auspicious start. Hope we do better next week.

Next match – Home – Bradwell A 24 April 6.30pm.

Thursday League.
Did anybody spot last week’s deliberate mistake! Although we won we did win all the doubles games as well as the singles, otherwise our score would have been the maximum 153. We did lose one doubles game. However it was still a great win.

Home – Matlock Park A – 19 April. Having nearly hit the jackpot last week we thought things could not get better. Although we did not win as many games we did score more points. We won the doubles games 62 to 48 and the singles games 83 to 50. The overall score therefore was one better than last week 145 to 98! At this rate we will be near the top of the division. I am sure however next weeks match will bring us down to earth.

Next match – Away Matlock Bath – 26 April 1.45pm.

Still nobody to play with on Monday nights. Is there anybody out there?

Success on Friday 13th

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

So we are off and bowling, well throwing a circular thing at a smaller white thing. Thankfully as you who live here will know the snow did not last long and we have been able to play a match or two with varying success this week.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Home – 10 April – Matlock Park B.

Matches in this league normally start at 6.30pm, but in early season you try to get going sooner rather than late. Just as well. I think also the opposition had better miner’s hats than we did because by the time the match ended it was very dark.

Anyway we only won one of the four games, although in the games we lost we did manage to accumulate good scores. Now just as a reminder you have to play four doubles games first up to 21 wins the game. The maximum points you can score therefore is 84. Having lost three out of four the result was 81 to Matlock and 73 Parwich, which as things go is not too bad a losing score if you understand what I mean.

Next match – Away – Chatsworth 17 April.

Thursday League.

Because of the cancellation of the first match we played two matches this week.

Again just as a reminder the format of the match is three doubles up to 21 and six singles up to 15. Maximum score therefore 153.

Away – 12 April – Chatsworth.

We unfortunately did not manage to win any doubles games, indeed we managed to lose them all quite nicely. However in the singles we won three out of the six. The final scores were Chatsworth 133, Parwich 109.

Home – Cancelled match – Wirksworth – Friday 13 April.

Friday the 13th enjoy! Not only did we win all the doubles games, (63 to 36) we also won all six singles as well. I cannot recall us ever managing to do this before, although I am sure that some members of the Club can put me right. Anyway the final result was Parwich 144, Wirksworth 103.

Next match – Home Matlock Park ‘A’ – 19 April.

Don’t forget we will be having a few ‘ends’ on Monday night at about 6.30. Come and have a try. Nobody new has turned up so far, it’s very lonely on our own!

Bowling Season Underway

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

First week of the new bowls season, at least we did not lose. We did not win either, the match was cancelled! Because of the vagaries of our British weather we had a dusting of the white stuff on the green.

Matlock Tuesday League.

Home – 10 April – Matlock Park B.

We have not played this Club in the Tuesday League; they have a team in the higher division. For the past few years this higher team has won the League. Don’t know what to expect from the lower division team, but I have no doubt they will be good. Any way all will be revealed next Tuesday at 6.30 ish at Parsons Croft.

Thursday League.

Away – 12 April – Chatsworth – 1.45pm

As I probably said last year this is a lovely venue. This team got relegated from the higher division last year so I think they will be tough to beat. We will see.

Don’t forget we will be having a few ‘ends’ on Monday night at about 6.30. Come and have a try.

Parwich Bowls Club

Last week of the season. A good season all round considering the membership we have. Two great wins to finish off.

Tuesday League

6 September – Home – Whitworth Park.

We managed to win all four games in the match. One very convincingly, one by just one point. The result was 84 to Parwich 60 to Whitworth. We have been hovering between sixth to fourth position in the league. This result and scores from other matches means we have finally finished fourth, one place higher than last year. A really creditable performance for such a small club.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League

9 September – Home – Matlock Bath

A final resounding win for us. We won all three of the doubles games and four out of the six singles. The score was 136 to us and 97 to Matlock. Matlock were ahead of us in the league, but with this conclusive win we have overtaken them. Again we have been around fifth to seventh in the league. Depending on other results we could make fifth.

We have one final game this Sunday before we put the green to bed for the winter. If you fancy a final look come down at 2.00pm. For a number of years the Club has had an invitation from Ashbourne Bowls Club to play indoor bowls during the winter period. This is very informal, but most enjoyable for those taking part. The season starts on Monday 10 October at 1.30 pm at the Ashbourne Club. If you fancy something to do on a cold winter afternoon then why not give it a try. Not sure where you can get such good entertainment for a £1 these days. Contact a member of the bowls club for more details.

All being well there will be further fabulous commentaries next year. Hope to speak to you electronically next April. Have good and safe winter.

Parwich Bowls Club

Two losses this week, however, if a team can have a ‘good’ loss then we had one this week!

Tuesday League – 30 August – Away – Hathersage

As said on previous occasions this is a cracking venue.  It’s a pity that they have such a good bowls team!  They are second in the league and although we gave a good account of ourselves we were beaten by the better side 77 to 64.  Even after this loss because other results favoured us we have managed to stay in fifth place in the league.  Only one more match to play this season let us hope that we have a good game.  We may even sneak into fourth.

Last match 6 September – Home – Whitworth Park

Matlock Thursday Friendly League – 1 Sept – Away – Lafarge (Hope)

Again a nice green, shame about the quarry silos!  Although we only won one of the three doubles games we only were behind by 8 points.  In the singles we won 4 out of the six singles and won this encounter by seven points.  The overall result was therefore 128 to Lafarge and 127 to us.  A good loss!

Last match 9 September – Home – Matlock Bath.

Parwich Bowls Club update

We have been having a fair amount of success of late.  This week we had mixed fortunes: winning one match, but losing the other.

Tuesday league.

23 August – Away – Bakewell.

Bakewell were ahead of us in the league and we always do not play well on their green. The green is long and thin, not the usual square. Anyway, we managed to win three out of the four games and came out winners at 71 to 46. Because of this handsome win, we have overtaken them in the league and have moved up to fifth place. Next week, the penultimate match of the season: we are away to the top of the league!

Next match: 30 August – Away – Hathersage.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.

Again, Whitworth Park are a strong team – and so it proved in the match. We only managed to win one of the three doubles, and we shared the six singles three each. The result was therefore 125 to Whitworth and 115 to us. Not a bad score, considering we lost.

Next match: 1 September Away – Lafarge, Hope.

Parwich Bowls Club

We have had a different couple of bowling weeks. Each year the Thursday League stops the normal league games and takes part in the Greenaway Charity Tournament. Parwich has had quite a lot of success in the match over recent years. Last year a member managed to win the ‘plate’ competition. This year we did not manage to win in either ‘pool’, although one player got knocked out in the semi final. Anyway the Greenaway was the winner, on the day the League players raised in excess of £1100 for the Charity.

Tuesday League – 9 August – Away – Bradwell

We were behind Bradwell in the league by 4 points. And although we did win three out of the four games we lost heavily in the fourth game. The final result was Bradwell 63, Parwich 66, meaning we were still behind Bradwell by one point!

Tuesday League – 16 August – Home – Wirksworth

We had one of our best results of the season winning all four games and very convincingly. The final score was Parwich 84 (the maximum) Wirksworth 46. This result has given us three wins on the trot and lifted us to fifth in the League. With only three matches to go before the end of the season let us hope our good form continues.

Next match 23 August – Away – Bakewell

Matlock Thursday Friendly League – 18 August – Home – Matlock Park

The good form in our Tuesday league matches carried over this week to the Thursday League. Although we only won one game in the doubles the scores were reasonably level at the end of them. We more than made up the deficit in the singles however, winning all six games for the first time this season. The final score was a resounding 141 to 103 win to Parwich.

Next match 25 August Away – Whitworth Park

We have a Club competition this Sunday. We start on the ‘green’ at 10.30 in the morning. If you fancy a meander down we will be pleased to see you.

Thankfully we have had a change in fortune in one of the leagues we play in and in the other, although we lost, we tried very hard.

Tuesday League – 2 August – Home – Matlock Bath

After struggling for a few weeks in this league we finally managed to win, and what an emphatic win it was. We won three of the four games and the game we lost was only lost by one point. The result therefore was 83 to Parwich and 60 to Matlock Bath. Not so sure how we will get on next week – we are playing a very strong side.

Next match 9 August – Away – Bradwell.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League – 4 August – Away – Tideswell

The venue at Tideswell is really lovely, but for us it is a difficult place to play. They have lots of members in their club and their teams are always very strong. This week continued to prove the case. We thought we had done well in the doubles games only losing 50 to 41. However they obviously saved their better players for the singles games where we only managed to win two out of the six. The final result was 129 to Tideswell 98 to Parwich.

We do not have a match next week in the Thursday League as the ‘Greenaway’ competition takes place. This is the annual charity competition to support the Greenaway Centre in Darley Dale. The league players have managed to raise thousands of pounds for the centre over the years. Let us hope for another good day next Thursday.

On Sunday we play one of our own competitions, the Round Robin. It lasts all day as you will probably gather from the name each doubles pair plays all other pairs. The game starts at 10.30am this Sunday 7 August. Come down have a look.

The poor form continues! We have not won a match for ages now.

Tuesday league
26 July – Away – Whitworth Park.

I suppose if there is such a thing as a good loss this may possibly be considered one! Whitworth Park are second in the league and we were not looking forward to the match. Although we only won one game out of the four we did get quite good points from the other games. In the end we lost 69 to 61 not a bad result. Unfortunately our next match is against Matlock Bath and they have a very good team.

Next match 2 August – Home – Matlock Bath.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
28 July – Home – Bradwell.

We again lost all the doubles games 63 to 36, however, the singles games came to our rescue. In four out of the six games we managed to win and the two other games we only closely lost. The points were 81 to Parwich and 58 to Bradwell. Total match score therefore was a close loss 117 to 121.

Next match 4 August – Away – Tideswell.

Not a good week at all. We lost in both leagues. Unfortunately we do not seem to be able to put a consistently good run of wins together in either League.

Tuesday league – 19 July – Home – Ashwood Park.
Up until this season Ashwood Park have always been at least a top half of the table team and we have always struggled against them. They have been at the bottom of the league for some time and on their green earlier this season we beat them convincingly, however, when we played them this week they played to their usual high standard. If we carry on playing like this we will be at the bottm. We only managed to win one game and ‘comfortably’ lost the match 72 to 58. We had slipped to mid table, but with this result we are sure to drop into the bottom half.

Next match 28 July – Home – Bradwell.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League – 21 July – Away – Matlock Golf Club.
The Golf Club are always extremely competitive, even in the ‘Friendly League’ and this week proved no exception. They are third in the league and this weeks result will keep them there. We did not win any of the three doubles games and although we won four out of the six singles games some of our losses were quite heavy. We only scored 69 points to their 68. This made the overall match score a win for the Golf Club 131 to 111.

Next match 26 July – Away – Whitworth Park.

Bowling Weekly

By a quirk in the fixtures computer we played Chatsworth in both Leagues this week. Inevitably the results in each match were very different.

Tuesday league

12 July – Away – Chatsworth.

Some matches although they are lost are still really excellent, this was one such match. The venue at Chatsworth helps. Anyway we only managed to win one game out of the four played in the Tuesday League, but they were all close games. In the end we lost 83 to 73. Sometimes when you win you do not get as many points. The match, however, was really enjoyable. We had dropped to mid table in the League. Let us hope this score will allow us not to drop any further.

Next match 19 July – Home – Ashwood Park.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.

14 July – Home – Chatsworth.

For some time we have not been playing well in the doubles games in the Thursday League. This week, we won all three games very convincingly. We also managed to win 4 out of the six singles games. The overall result was therefore a resounding win 139 to 94. This will hopefully stop us dropping any further down the table.

Next match 21 July – Away – Matlock Golf Club.

Before starting on this week’s informative and knowledgeable details of the results of the league team a few words on the Bowls Extravaganza which took place on Wednesday night. We all thought, considering it was organised chaos, that it went off really well. Some of the participants were very good indeed. We will have to see if we can organise something else later in the year.  Perhaps we can try and persuade some adults to have a go. Well done to all concerned. It was fabulous to see the bowling green so full!

Turning to the informative and knowledgeable details for this week, we lost both matches. We will have to get some of the children to play for us.

Tuesday league -5 July – Home – Lafarge.
Last week was not good, this week was somewhat worse. The only consolation is that Lafarge are a much bigger club than us and have more players. The other factor of course is they played better than we did. We were exactly half way in the league. No doubt we have dropped down into the bottom half.
Next match 12 July – Away – Chatsworth.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League – 7 July – Away – Wirksworth.
Again this week we did not do well in the doubles games, losing all three again. One game however was only a narrow defeat. We did alright in the singles though, winning 4 of the 6 and only just losing in the other two. The result though was 129 to Wirksworth and 111 to us.
Next match 14 July – Home – Chatsworth.

Bowls Club up-date 2/7/11

The start of the second half of the season. Where did the first half go? One win one loss again this week.

Tuesday league
28 June – Away – Matlock Golf Club.
They say a week is a long time in politics; well it is a disaster in bowls. By a fluke in the fixtures we played the Golf club two weeks running. First at home, last week and second, this week away. The scores for each side were very close in both matches. 79 to 57 to us at Parwich, 75 to 54 to the Golf Club at Matlock. Why is it that the two games are such a contrast? It’s a funny old game! We were up to third in the league but this result has dropped us down a couple of places.

Next match 5 July – Home – Lafarge (Hope).

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
30 June – Home – Baslow B.
Again a match of contrasts. We did not do well in the three doubles games, winning only one out of the three. The points at this stage were 53 to Baslow 34 to us. What a change around in the singles games we won five out the six only missing out winning the sixth by one point. The score in these games were 89 to us and 50 to Baslow. This gave us an overall win of 123 to 103. What a comeback! We had dropped down to sixth in this league so hopefully we will not fall any further after this really good result.

Next match 7 July – Away – Wirksworth A.

No Club games this weekend, it’s the start of Wakes. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather, particularly on Wednesday evening when you can all enjoy a bowls extravaganza at Parsons Croft. All welcome from 3 to 103. See you there.

A much better result in one league, but not so good in the other!

Tuesday league – 21 June – Home – Matlock Golf Club.
A lot better consistency this week against a team who we very often struggle against.  The outcome this match however was never in doubt after the first two games which we won convincingly.  The next two games we shared one each with the final match score being 79 to Parwich and 57 to the Golf Club.  With this result we moved up to third in the league.  Believe it or not that brings us to the half way point in the league with the reverse fixtures starting next week.

Next match 28 June – Away – Matlock Golf Club.

This is a lovely venue to play at, although we never do very well!  Today’s match was no exception.  We were soundly beaten in the three doubles games and although we shared the six singles games three each unfortunately our points scored in the games we lost were much less than Bradwell’s.  The match result therefore gave us our lowest score of the season.  Final score was 94 to 137.  We had dropped down to fifth in the league following last weeks low score and unfortunately we fall even further after this week.

Next match 30 June – Home – Baslow A.

A club competition this Sunday, ‘open doubles’.  The weather forecast looks good, so what could be better than rolling a few ‘woods’ around on a Sunday afternoon.  Great.

Don’t forget Monday nights 6.30.

Oh dear not at all good this week. Two losses.

Tuesday league

9 June – Away – Whitworth Park.

Really strange match this. Both teams won two games each, but we each had extreme highs and extreme lows in the games. As a result the match scores were very low for both teams. Whitworth just coming out on top 58 points to 55. Having been up to the giddy heights of second in the league and dropping to fourth, although we did not score many points we have still managed to stay fourth.

Next match 21 June – Home – Matlock Golf Club.

Thursday Friendly league.

16 June – Away – Matlock Bath.

As mentioned before this is a most peculiar green. Shaped a bit like a fifty pence piece and almost as small. Anyway we did very well in the double games. Winning two and only narrowly losing the third. Thank goodness we did for we ‘bombed’ in the six singles games, winning only one. Having said that because we managed to score heavily in the doubles we did get 111 points in all to 122 for Matlock. We had risen to fourth in the league, but this result will no doubt drop us a place or two.

Next match 23 June – Away – Bradwell A.

No friendly or club games this weekend, open gardens takes pride of place. Go along to see how much hard work has been put in.

Don’t forget Monday nights 6.30.

Well at least we won one of our two matches this week.

Tuesday league – 7 June – Home – Hathersage.
Hathersage are, and still are, top of the league. Although we shared the games two each their points scored were considerably better than ours. Consequently we lost the match 63 to 70. We have dropped from second in the league to fourth.
Next match 14 June – Away – Whitworth Park.

Thursday Friendly league – 9 June – Home – Lafarge.
Our winning streak continues in this league. Lafarge from Hope were second in the league. We did play really well and won the doubles games three nil and five out of the six singles, giving us a 143 to 89 win. Having at one point been third from bottom we are now a very respectable mid table.
Next match 16 June – Away – Matlock Bath.

We were due to play another friendly match away at Ellastone on Sunday, but due to people being on holiday we could not send enough players to have a match. We therefore had to cancel which is a real shame. IF ONLY WE HAD MORE MEMBERS.

Don’t forget Monday nights 6.30pm

Bowling news

Mixed fortunes this week. We seem to be doing well in one league but are struggling in the other.

Tuesday league

10 May – Away – Matlock Bath

This is a very strange green almost shaped like a fifty pence piece and the humps and hollows are something else. We did however play really well winning three out of the four games and only just loosing the fourth. The outcome therefore was that we managed a really good win away from home 82 to 58. This puts us back up to second in the league.

Next match 17 May – Home – Bradwell.

Thursday Friendly league.

12 May – Away – Bradwell.

The situation of the Bradwell green is really lovely. And on summer evenings you can see the gliders and hang gliders coming over the escarpment. Magical. Anyway although the venue is great we don’t do well against Bradwell. This match did not improve our record. We unfortunately lost all three of the doubles games, but did manage to share the singles games three each. The final result was 126 to Bradwell 110 to us.

Next match 19 May – Home – Tideswell.

We had a very nice afternoon last Sunday playing a friendly match against Ellastone. The weather was lovely and sunny and the afternoon tea was spectacularly good! This Sunday we have a club competition, open singles. Why not come along and have a look at what you are missing down at Parsons Croft around 2.00pm.

Don’t forget Monday nights at 6.30.

Already the first month of the bowls season has gone. Does anybody know what happened to April?

Tuesday league – 3 May – Home – Whitworth Park A.
We have made a great start in this league and after three matches we were top of the division.  Whitworth Park had been relegated from the higher division last year, but are still a very good team.  Having had two maximum scores in the previous weeks we were ambitiously going for a hat trick.  Ah well, we can dream.  We won two of the four games and lost the others.  The overall score was a loss 67 to 71. We have dropped from top spot to fourth in the league.
Next match 10 May – Away – Matlock Bath.

Thursday Friendly league – 5 May – Home – Matlock Golf Club.
Having reached the dizzy heights of top in the Tuesday League we are struggling in this league and our performance against the Golf Club did nothing to help our place.  Although we only won one of the doubles games we in fact scored more points than our opponents.  Unfortunately in the singles games we only won two out of six.  The overall result therefore was a loss, 118 to 122.  Our position in the league will at best remain at fourth from bottom.
Next match 12 May – Away – Bradwell.

On this coming Sunday we have a friendly match against Ellastone.  These are very informal matches and you play as much or a little as you like.  The Match starts at 2.00pm and carries on until about six’ish.

Don’t forget Monday nights 6.30.

Although I bemoan the fact that we do not have very many members, the few we do have really do us proud. The past couple of weeks only serves to prove the point.

Tuesday league – 19 April – Home – Chatsworth.
The maximum points you can win in this league is 84. ( 4 x 21 ). We obviously try to win by as many points as possible, but there are some very good teams and therefore players in the league. Anyway we managed the top score beating our opponents by 84 to 53. This put us fourth in the league albeit after only two games.

26 April – Away – Ashwood Park Buxton.
We never do very well on this green and after the beautiful warm weather we have been having it was really quite chilly. However our team warmed up the green with another full house winning by 84 to 36. I am sure this is the best result we have ever had against Ashwood either home or away. I wonder where we will be in the league?

Next match 3 May – Home – Whitworth Park A.

Thursday Friendly league.
Having blown our trumpet over the results of the Tuesday team we are struggling somewhat in this league.

14 April – Away – Baslow.
A good team and a tricky green. Having said that we acquitted ourselves well. Although we lost all three doubles games we did share the singles games three each. The result however was 125 to Baslow 111 to us.

21 April – Home – Wirksworth A.
Another loss this week; but a creditable one. Wirksworth were only just relegated last year and have very good players. The score was 119 to 126.

Next match 28 April – Away – Chatsworth.

We had a really pleasant friendly game with Hazelwood. The hospitality was very nice.

Don’t forget Monday nights 6.30pm.

11 April 2011 -Week 2.

Having started off with a win in week 1 we came down to earth with a bit of gentle bump. We were away in both leagues.

Tuesday league – 12 April – Away – Lafarge.
The format of this league is 4 doubles games, first to 21. We won two and lost two. This team were only just relegated from the higher division last year so the result of 76 to Lafarge and 70 to Parwich was really good. It was also a good job we were at Lafarge. Although we lost the match the individual games were close. In consequence it was very late by the time we had finished. Fortunately Lafarge have floodlights. Some of us have never played under floodlights, but it was really good.

Next match – HOME – Chatsworth B – 19 April 6.30pm start.

Thursday Friendly league – 14 April – Away – Baslow B.
Three doubles up to 21 and six singles up to 15. Total points available 154. We did not manage to win a doubles, although in one game we only lost 20 to 21. In the singles we shared the games 3 each. The final result was 125 to Baslow and 111 to Parwich. A very creditable score.
Next match – HOME – Wirksworth A – 21 April – 1.45 pm start.

Throughout the year we play friendly matches against teams from either different divisions or even different leagues. This Sunday we are going to Hazelwood for a match. They have over 150 members !!- oh if only some would come our way. The venue is also top class and we always look forward to going there to see how the other half live!!

We had a good practice on Monday night and again we had our two young men having a go. You would not believe how much the two improved. Our new lady member also did so much better. Keep coming you guys.
Don’t forget to come along on Monday night, about 6.30pm.

Thursday League – Home – Bradwell – 7 April 20111

First match of the season. Usually our first match is played in cold wet weather, but this day was really warm and sunny.

The format of the Thursday League is 3 doubles matches are played first to 21 and 6 singles first to 15. In the League it is points that count not necessarily matches won.

In today’s match we won 1 out of the 2 doubles and 3 out of the 6 singles. However the point’s totals were 48 to 49 in the doubles and 67 to 65 in the singles giving Parwich the win by one point 115 to 114. As you can imagine the outcome of the game was not known until the final singles had finished. A great start to the season. Lets us hope we can carry on doing well as the season progresses.

Our next League match is in the Tuesday night league against Lafarge at Hope on 12 April.

We will of course be having a practice night on Monday night at around 6.30pm until dark. See you there.

We had our first practice session on Monday night. A new lady member came down to have a try. Very good too. We also had two young men ( aged 11 and 10 ) who also played a number of ‘ends’ A good evening all round.

Our first league match takes place this Thursday at home. As was mentioned in the earlier comment, it is against Bradwell. The match starts at 1.45pm and usually finishes at about 4.15/4.30pm.

If you have the time on Thursday afternoon, why not come to the green and have a look? You may even get a nice cup of tea or coffee.

We have been getting the Green ready for the start of the season. Our first league match is on Thursday afternoon, at home against Bradwell.

Bradwell finished a little below us in the league last season, so we will hope to do well against them next week. Details of the result will be put on the web.

Prior to the match however, we need to get some practice in. It is always difficult, as the weather is usually against us to get the Green sorted by April. Anyway, we will be going down to the Green at 6.30 pm on Monday night ( 4 April 2011 ). We would greatly welcome anybody who would like to try Crown Green Bowls.

Why not come and have a try? All you need is a pair of flat shoes. We have the bowls.

See you on the Green at 6.30 pm tomorrow.
