With beautiful weather, all ran very smoothly. Starting with breakfast at the Legion the Parade, led by Doveholes Brass Band and made up of Parwich and other Odd Fellows, Wirksworth Army Cadets, the Brownies and local people made its way first to Parwich Hall. Here Charlie Fern outlined the history od St. George from early legends via his becoming Patron Saint of England in 1350 and via the Battle of Agincourt and much more upto his role with the Armed Forces and the Boy Scouts.

The St. George’s Day Service was taken by the Rev Andy Larkin, with Colin Sims talking on the 100th Anniversary of ANZAC Day (the Gallipoli Landings), Rachel Robinson Reading the lesson and the Vicar preaching on the text of ‘The Good Shepherd’.

The Parade moved on round the village with some much appreciated hospitality stops, before finishing again at the Legion for the barbecue.

YNOT 2015

It’s that time of year again, (no I’m not talking about Christmas), its time to put on your wellies and shake the cobwebs off your tent, its almost time for YNOT Festival 2015.

The fields around Pikehall near Parwich will be transformed into a mix of live music and entertainment with plenty of hot and cold food. There are camping facilities, toilets and showers available in the fields beside the festival. This year there are 3 promising headliners, including the indie-rock band Primal Scream, Basement Jaxx and the very well known and popular Snoop Dogg. The line up for this years YNOT Festival also includes Saint Raymond, Nick Mulvey, Rae Morris, Pulled Apart By Horses, Slaves, We Are The Ocean, The Amazing Snakeheads, Honey Blood, Gengahr, Jagaara, Ruen Brothers, Fearless, Vampire Killer, Allusondrugs, The Academic and King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys.

The tickets for YNOT 2015 are currently on sale but tier 1, costing £84.50 have already sold out due to the increasing popularity of YNOT. Tier 2 is at £89.50 and tickets for tier 3 cost £94.50.

Dance Instructor Wanted

The enormously successful Dance Classes in the Memorial Hall, set up by Derbyshire Village Games, are on hold while a new instructor is sought. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please pass this information on:

image

A successful street dance project in Parwich in the Derbyshire Dales, launched by Derbyshire Village Games, is on the lookout for a new instructor to lead sessions.

The group has proved hugely popular with both young and old, after residents pleaded for more sport and activity in the village last year. The weekly family dance classes encourage parents and carers to get up and have a boogie with their children and relatives and attract nearly 20 participants.

Parwich resident, Katy W got in touch with Derbyshire Dales Village Games Coordinator, Katy Stubbs to ask for her help in organising fun, local dance sessions for the community. (more…)

Dance Classes on hold

Bad news unfortunately on both the upcoming Dance classes:

Dear all

Sadly I have just been informed that the dance classes we had previously advertised will not be going ahead as planned due to unforeseen circumstances.

I have contacted Community Sports to ask if there can be a replacement but probably won’t hear anything back until late next week.

I’ll keep you informed.

Thanks Katy

Katy at Village Games says “the teacher says it is very much free style and will be adapted to the participants which turn up however saying that is aimed more at the parents and children (mummies and daughters dancing together etc) rather than an experienced dancer, however that’s not to say we could not introduce a further session, should there be the interest in the village.”

Y Not In Pictures

As festival-goers pack their tents and start to think about the real world again, they can look back on a classic weekend of music and fun. From the pyrotechnic onslaught of Dizzie to the relaxing acoustic tents. From hilarious paint/mud-related encounters to the secret rave tent that only The Grannies could help you find (“It’s behind the bookcase. Shhh!”). From King Pleasure’s triumphant swing set to the jaw-dropping beatboxing of Shlomo. Y Not had it all!

Y Not Day 1

What’s big, has 30,000 legs and wades through mud? Friday at Y Not was buzzing despite the slightly inclement weather. The festival was alive with great bands and a great atmosphere.  Our roving reporter particularly enjoyed the mighty Kog and the Zongo Brigade – what a performance!

20140801_222635

The following review is provided by Matthieu Woods (aged 16), who has travelled from France to attend the festival:

Ynot is the best place on earth. I mean, this was my first festival last year, and I travelled from France for the second time in a row, bringing my sister this time.
The reasons for this success are the place, the people and the music (glad about that!). First, Derbyshire is such a great place to set a festival, with its marvellous landscapes and fields that turn into mud a few hours after the festival started – but a festival without any mud wouldn’t be a British festival, right?-, becoming a wellingtons’ gala.
Then, English people, especially during ynot, are so cool ! People dancing in the tents, talking together in the toilets queue, recommending bands they know to strangers…
Finally, the last but not the least is the fact that these bands that are up and coming, or the guitar-voice people that try to be known, performing in small tents, make such a good music. For what I’ve seen during these couple of days I’ve passed in ynot, everything was brilliant. Even if I wouldn’t listen to all of them in my bedroom, these musicians are at least great on stage.
I would recommend this festival to any person who wants to try a festival, but not a huge one. Maybe next year I’ll manage to convince friends to come abroad ?
