Thursday’s Coffee Afternoon

For over a year, a dedicated band of Parwich embroiderers and other craftspeople have been working on a special representation of the village. Inspired by Gill S and assisted by Ann K, ten talented people have spent many hours embroidering the landmarks, buildings and inhabitants of Parwich. The project’s aim was to provide people with a chance to meet up and work on something together as a community.

This morning, the wall hanging was unveiled by Rev Andy Larkin at a special church service. Andy made the connection between the threads woven into the fabric and the threads of our community, stressing we are all stronger through our collective interaction and support for each other.

Hi,
I’m contacting you with a cheeky plea for help/request for info from Comic Relief – I hope you don’t mind!

Comic Relief would love to get Parwich involved in Sport Relief 2012 but I’m not sure who in your village would be able to help me do this.

From experience recreation committees or sports clubs are the most suitable people for me to speak to so I wondered if you would be kind enough to pass my email details – l.thornton@comicrelief.com (and this link – http://www.sportrelief.com/the-mile/organise-an-event ) on to them in the hope they’ll get in touch if they are interested?

Your help and support would be massively appreciated.
Thanks, Liz

Organise A Mile Event – What’s In it For You
Whether you’re a local council, leisure centre, sports club or university, there’s a lot to be said for organising your very own Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile:

  • It raises crucial cash for life-changing projects up and down the country and across the world.
  • It’s a great way to show off your town or, if you run a club, to raise your profile and get new members.
  • It’s inclusive, community-based, plus it gets everyone active and involved in a massive national event.

Our currently our nearest venue for the mile run is Ashbourne Recreation Ground on 25th March – Whether you do 1, 3 or 6 miles – as a family team, with your mates or against the clock – you’ll have a fantastic time when you go the distance. And until 15th December it’s half price entry, just £3 for adults, £1.50 for children and £7.50 for a family of four.

Sports Relief is also kicking off in schools.

Your support as parents and friends of Parwich Primary School in attending what promises to be a wonderful evening would be fantastically appreciated. As in previous years, it would be great if parents/families could please bring along donations of party food for everyone to share.

If you are wondering what to bring, this may give you some idea. If you could bring a couple of items from the list, enough for your own children/family (or maybe a little more!) and then everyone shares, it should work out OK!

Sandwiches – Crisps etc – Veg sticks/salad – Cocktail sausages or other savouries – Cakes – Biscuits – Fruit

All hot drinks and soft drinks will be provided by the PTA.

If you have any questions, please ask Sam L (477), Sally P, or Mandy N.

150th Anniversary Balloon Launch

REMINDER: the balloon launch takes place tomorrow (Thursday), so this is your last chance to buy tickets!

Continuing with their 150th anniversary celebrations, Parwich Primary School are holding a Balloon Launch.

On Thursday 14th July, starting at 2pm, each of the fifty children will launch a balloon to celebrate education at Parwich Primary School.

Each Parwich Primary School child will be given a balloon, free of charge, to release on the afternoon. However, everyone else needs to purchase one!

This means that the school has 100 balloons to sell, to make this event a success!

Each balloon can be bought for a minimum donation of £2.

To be in with a chance to win, all you have to do is:

1. Click here to open the order slip, then print it off. Parents will already have received paper versions of the slip.

2. Fill in the slip, completing your details for the label as you want them to appear.

3. Turn up on Thursday July 14th at 2pm, to be part of a fab afternoon, with hope for a clear day.

4. Look forward to your balloon travelling the furthest, so you’re in with a chance of winning a first prize of £25, a second prize of £15, or a third prize of £10.

Anyone can purchase a balloon and there is no limit to the number you are permitted to buy.

All money raised goes towards our ‘Celebration Garden’ which will begin to take shape during September and October and will provide an amazing outdoor learning environment for all our children.

Another extremely successful Wakes Week is over and thanks must go to everyone who took part, spectators, participants, organisers and helpers, but without the hard work of the committee who meet, plan and co-ordinate the events we wouldn’t have this amazing week.  So special thanks to Kerry Allsop, Janet Bainbridge, Sandra Chadfield, Roger Cundy, Liz Edge, Denis Laycock, Alan & Barbara Lowes, Paula Lynam, Sharon Swindell and Karen Wigley.

Next year’s Wakes begins on Saturday 30th June 2012.

The rest of this article contains all the Wakes posts and is a shortcut to any event or photo you may have missed. (more…)

The Masquerade Ball is scheduled to taked place on Saturday July 16th. Tickets are priced at £20, and they can be purchased from Tracy Marshall, Mandy Noble or Sally Peat. Alternatively, please ring 01335 390552 for further details.

Message from the organisers:

Ticket sales for this event, for whatever reason, have been very slow and we are becoming concerned as to whether this event should take place or not.

If you are interested in attending The Masquerade Ball and have not yet purchased your tickets, would you please do by  TONIGHT, so that we can assess whether to proceed with the event or whether to cancel or postpone it to a later date.

It would be incredibly disappointing to cancel or postpone, as we have put a great deal of effort into organising this event to co-inside with Parwich Primary School’s 150th year anniversary.

Due to lack of government funding, the PTA work very hard to raise money for the school to ensure that the children do not miss out on their educational needs, by raising money for educational trips, books etc.

So, please support this event if you can. We promise it will be a fantastic evening with exceptional food, a magician, music and wine! The only stipulation is a mask (which you don’t have to wear all evening) and no jeans or trainers (you don’t need a ball gown or tuxedo to have a good time).

BUT: please don’t forget buy your tickets by tonight –  Friday July 8th.

Amanda Beddows has sent us the following message:

I am one of two Parent Governors currently sitting on the Governing Body of Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, and would like to take this opportunity to let local parents know that, should they have any concerns or comments either as parents of children already attending the school, or about to commence their education there, that my responsibilities include raising pertinent issues to the school, voiced by parents, at regular meetings of the Governing body. In particular, I would welcome any questions parents may have regarding the current proposals to change the status of the school to an Academy Trust. Following consultation meetings with various authorities and parents, the Department of Education granted the school permission to proceed (last week) with the anticipated change taking place in August to maximise the financial benefits this is likely to incur.

In order for the process to commence, a vote in favour is required from the Governing Body, due to sit for this purpose on Tuesday May 24th. As a parent representative I would like to ensure that my vote represents the wishes of parents in the area as far as possible therefore I would welcome any comments any parents would like to make at this stage and also address any questions relating to the change in status which remain outstanding. Whilst I may be unable to answer some queries myself I am able to ask appropriate members of the Governing Body and Senior Management team on parents’ behalf. Any queries can be sent to me via email at home (amanda beddows at yahoo dot co dot uk) or work (php07ab at sheffield  dot ac dot uk) or by telephone (626) and treated in strict confidence.

Any other queries relating to more general issues are also welcome, discussion of these is likely to be postponed until after the emergency meeting next week and take place at the following full Governors meeting on June 20th. My particular interest as a member of the Staffing and Curriculum sub-committee is Science and Maths so any concerns or comments relating to the delivery of these subjects are very welcome.

Many thanks

Amanda Beddows, Hallgates
