There is a wonderful display of Christmas trees in the Church, decorated by the different societies, groups and individuals in the village.  An enormous amount of effort has gone into this and if you haven’t already been in to have a look, please do.

Remember it is the Crib Service on Thursday at 4pm, everyone is extremely welcome.

The school needs your boxes

uncle_samThe infants need lots of boxes for junk modelling and building things – cereal boxes, tea bag boxes, tubes from kitchen and loo rolls, egg boxes, cat food boxes – any other boxes you can think of.  Please either give them to someone you know who goes to school or pop them into school yourself.  Thank you.

“Suspected swine flu” update

For anyone concerned about “suspected swine flu” in school, we have been asked to clarify the following: 1. the medical advice given to the person in question is that it is probably not swine flu; 2. treatment was given as a precaution because they suffer from asthma; and 3. the person in question seems now to be recovering fast and so has only been unwell for a day or two.

School Sports Week

As well as being Wakes this week, the school has had their sports week.  I popped in on a couple of their sports sessions yesterday.  The first was a game of rounders played with footballs – i.e. the bowler bowls a football to the kicker who kicks then ball then runs. The second was Nia preparing our netball team for an upcoming tournament.  There are a couple of pictures from each below:

Maths is Fun.

Today saw the culmination of Numeracy Week, and what a day it was today.  The children had the challenge of dressing up as something to do with maths.

The afternoon, with parents taking part, involved a maths relay with all the school involved.  With 7 teams of mixed ages, each team had to run to collect their first of 30 questions, as each one was answered, each child taking it in turns had to return to the the teachers to have their answers checked.  Once they received the OK, it was back to their group for the next one.

A team of about 20 boys and girls went to a QEGs rounders tournament last night in the blazing hot sunshine.  The highlights were beating Longford 7:3 and getting through to the quarter finals where sadly we were knocked out by Clifton.  Still, the kids clobbered the ball hard a few times, made a few great catches, ran like the wind and had a blast.
