Posted in School on Thursday January 7, 2010| Leave a Comment »
All staff have set off for school and we are planning to open the school as normal this morning. However, we do not know how the roads into the village are this morning after lows of -9C last night. Staff will let me know if they get into difficulties and I will post any news here on the blog as well as letting Derby Radio know if we have to shut the school.

There is a wonderful display of Christmas trees in the Church, decorated by the different societies, groups and individuals in the village. An enormous amount of effort has gone into this and if you haven’t already been in to have a look, please do.
Remember it is the Crib Service on Thursday at 4pm, everyone is extremely welcome.

The school needs your boxes
Posted in School on Wednesday October 21, 2009| 4 Comments »
The infants need lots of boxes for junk modelling and building things – cereal boxes, tea bag boxes, tubes from kitchen and loo rolls, egg boxes, cat food boxes – any other boxes you can think of. Please either give them to someone you know who goes to school or pop them into school yourself. Thank you.

Help! Can you sew?
Posted in School on Friday September 11, 2009| Leave a Comment »
Parwich Primary School has bought about 50 hi-visibility jackets for the children to wear out and about on school trips. They need parents or relatives or friends or any willing volunteers to sew on the parwich school logo badges. Would you offer to sew on 5 or 10 or 15 or 20? Call the school on 245 or Lynne on 474 if you would be able to help a little or a lot.
Thank you.

Mrs Black`s and Mrs Williamson`s Leaving party 22/07/09
This afternoon saw the leaving party at Parwich Primary School of Joanne Black and Diane Williamson.
What a lovely afternoon it turned out to be. The children gave a presentation of music and song to the teachers, parents and friends, followed by gifts flowers and afternoon tea.
It was a lovely atmosphere and enjoyed by all who attended. We wish them both well in the future.

“Suspected swine flu” update
Posted in School on Thursday July 9, 2009| 6 Comments »
For anyone concerned about “suspected swine flu” in school, we have been asked to clarify the following: 1. the medical advice given to the person in question is that it is probably not swine flu; 2. treatment was given as a precaution because they suffer from asthma; and 3. the person in question seems now to be recovering fast and so has only been unwell for a day or two.

School Sports Week

As well as being Wakes this week, the school has had their sports week. I popped in on a couple of their sports sessions yesterday. The first was a game of rounders played with footballs – i.e. the bowler bowls a football to the kicker who kicks then ball then runs. The second was Nia preparing our netball team for an upcoming tournament. There are a couple of pictures from each below:

Maths is Fun.

Today saw the culmination of Numeracy Week, and what a day it was today. The children had the challenge of dressing up as something to do with maths.
The afternoon, with parents taking part, involved a maths relay with all the school involved. With 7 teams of mixed ages, each team had to run to collect their first of 30 questions, as each one was answered, each child taking it in turns had to return to the the teachers to have their answers checked. Once they received the OK, it was back to their group for the next one.

Parents, children, governors and staff of the school – what would you like to see on your school website? It is in the process of being created but we need your input. All ideas and suggestions are welcome – sensible ones, boring ones, fun ones and whacky ones too. You can leave comments at the bottom of this article, email your ideas into us at parwich@hotmail.co.uk or give your ideas to Sally or Lynne.

Wakes tombola prizes please

The school is running a tombola at the Saturday Wakes market and would welcome any and all contributions. Please deliver them tomorrow or Friday either to the school or – ideally – to Denise Ball, who is running the stall. All donations are more than welcome. Little bags of sweets or chocolates are popular as they attract lots of children to the stall. Thank you very much.
School rounders at QEGs last night

A team of about 20 boys and girls went to a QEGs rounders tournament last night in the blazing hot sunshine. The highlights were beating Longford 7:3 and getting through to the quarter finals where sadly we were knocked out by Clifton. Still, the kids clobbered the ball hard a few times, made a few great catches, ran like the wind and had a blast. (more…)

The slogan on the poster is “Slow Down Around Schools” as you can see from the pictures. Here are the children lining up by the cricket pitch.
