Snow School Today!

Radio Ashbourne and the QEGS Website broadcast the news:

Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School will be closed for the whole day…….

The news spread like wildfire throughout the village. Each pupil immediately started thinking how they could do some extra homework and get ahead with their revision. Each pupil immediately thought Yippee! Time to go to to The Sledging Hill!!

A day of enormous fun followed. An igloo was successfully constructed complete with a compressed arch roof. Who needs Physics lessons when you can learn whilst having so much fun!dsc_7104_800x5361 (more…)

Don’t forget Parwich Primary School is again participating in Bag 2 School, where second hand clothing is exchanged for money. This is a fantastic fundraiser for us and a great way for you to create space in your wardrobe for all the new things you have been picking up in the sales. Bring your unwanted clothing, bedding, curtains, soft toys, shoes, belts and handbags to School. There is still time to have a good sort out for next Monday.

Children take your blue bags to School on Monday 26th Jan or by 9am on the Tuesday. Everyone else please leave your unwanted adults’ and children’s clothing, bedding, curtains, soft toys, shoes, belts and handbags in the School porch on the afternoon of Monday 26th January ready for collection on the next day.

Thank you

Money for old clothes

Parwich Primary School is again participating in Bag 2 School, where good quality second hand clothing is exchanged for money. This is a fantastic fundraiser for us and a great way for you to create space in your wardrobe for all the new things you have been picking up in the sales.  Bring your unwanted adults’ and children’s clothing, bedding, curtains, soft toys, shoes, belts and handbags to School. Last time we raised about £100 (with a collection of ½ tonne) but will get better terms for this repeat collection (£300 per tonne) so start looking out your contribution.

They say that good things come in threes. Following last week’s Big Lottery Fund grant of £500,000 towards the redevelopment of Parwich Memorial Hall, and Tom Chambers’ spectacular success in Strictly Come Dancing, some of us were left wondering what our third stroke of good fortune would be.

And now we know! We’re grateful to our friends at the Ashbourne News Telegraph for passing on the excellent news that Parwich Primary School has been awarded a grant of nearly £8000, as part of Derbyshire County Council’s “Growing Better Together” funding initiative. This award is amongst the highest given to any of the schools on the list.

The funding is designed to encourage Derbyshire youngsters to:

  • Plan, plant, grow and eat healthy food
  • Share experience and knowledge by working alongside older people, parents, voluntary groups and horticulture/conservation organisations in their communities.

Parwich School PTA raffle

chaffinch paper weightThe Christmas raffle is a major source of fund raising for Parwich School PTA. Everyone is always very generous with raffle prizes and this year we obviously have the added bonus of the Crown Derby paper weight.  Any further prizes can be left at the School up to Friday 12th December.

Tickets are normally sold when people come to watch the school play (2pm Mon 15th and 7pm Tues 16th). However this year tickets can also be bought through the school until 3pm Tuesday 16th .

The draw will be made on Wednesday 17th December outside School starting at 3.15pm.  The idea being that we can hand the prizes out as the kids come out of school. Names are put on the back of all tickets and a contact number for non village people and those who can’t be at the draw so we can get prizes to them should they win.

With thanks for your support.

Growing Together in Parwich

Parwich SchoolParwich Primary School recently submitted a bid to provide funding that would enable them to improve our school grounds in a sustainable ‘green’ project.

Congratulations to the School; they have been awarded £7000, which along with the Morrisons’ ‘Let’s Grow’ vouchers (you can still leave any vouchers at the School) and the support of the local Park Rangers means they can begin to develop areas around school.

They have a plan, but now need volunteers to help make this a reality. If you or anyone within our community would like to be part of this project, please hand your name and contact details in to Mrs Rodgers (headteacher@parwich.derbyshire.sch.uk) at the School. The idea is that staff, children, parents and our community will work together.

Also, the Parwich & District Horticultural Society will be discussing how they can support this project at their AGM on Friday. So, members of the Society: have a think for Friday on how you help.

Healthy Eating Week

This week Parwich Primary School is holding a Healthy Eating Week.  Perhaps the School will be able to add some comments to this post or email ideas to parwich@hotmail.co.uk to help the rest of the community.  Also all you ‘non-school children’ out there might have ideas on how we can all eat more healthily.

(If you fancy a go at growing your own vegetables, seeds can be bought at discount rates through Parwich & District Horticultural Society; the Suttons Seeds catalogues will be given out at the Society’s up coming AGM or contact Mike Hart on tel. 456.)
