Patti B has reported suspicious looking men driving around the village in a white transit van this afternoon. They were enquiring about scrap and stayed around the Creamery Lane area for some time. Please be vigilant.

I’ve yet again had to pick up dog mess on Parsons Croft and a neighbour has also had to pick up someone elses dog poo this morning too. The school are regularly using this field and so are small children and this just isn’t acceptable. The dog mess is from a large dog and it isn’t a small amount!
We will all be keeping an eye out and if anyone is spotted leaving dog mess they will immediately be reported for a possible fine.
If you are using Parsons Croft for dogs, which like many I do too, then be responsible take your dog to the bottom of the field to do its business away from where the kids play and PICK IT UP! Don’t just let them run around and don’t watch them as that’s when it happens! We are watching you.
So the moral is don’t be a moron and face a big fine, bag and bin it and everything will be fine.

The temporary suspension of garden waste collections means crews can focus on all other scheduled collections as well as catching up with recent missed household waste and recycling collections, including any excess recycling.
Some key points about collections from Monday:
👉 Some areas may see more than one waste vehicle on your street on the same day within a short period of time. Please don’t assume you have been missed (or partially missed) by the first vehicle.
👉 Catch-ups of missed collections won’t necessarily happen on your scheduled collection day. Please leave out containers for collection.
👉 Scheduled collections won’t necessarily happen at the same *time* as usual – it’s important that you present containers at the kerbside no later than 7am on your scheduled collection day (even if you are used to trucks arriving at a later time).
👉 If you have extra recycling, please make sure it is easily identifiable by leaving it in transparent or open containers (eg a box) rather than black bags, and please flatten and cut down any cardboard to fit in the 0.5 metre recycling compartment on our trucks. There’s more information on this at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/excessrecycling
Please note that the temporary suspension of food waste collections continues. Mix food waste in your household waste container. If you are on a sacks round, to help prevent animals ripping open sacks in search of food waste, you can put their usual food caddy out alongside your refuse sacks if you wish, but food inside the caddy does need to be contained within a sealed bag.

Looking for a barn/unit to rent for a week. Large enough to get a VW crafter high roof in and work round. Need space so we can spray the body and leave to dry. We can cover area if required to prevent mess but using a spray that does not give out much mess.
Please contact Dan on 07856098515
Thanks

Just to be aware.
I just walked the dog down Kiln Lane. About halfway down there’s a tree with yellow flowers on the right.
At the moment their seems to be a fair number of wasps in the branches, hopefully just resting and not nesting.

Having read about the misuse of herbicide at Pump Hill I walked through there this afternoon. I was shocked at what can really only be called vandalism. Plants and shrubs which had been planted by volunteers and using money kindly donated by organisations and individuals have been wantonly damage. It is difficult to see how damage at this level can have happened by someone using herbicide on weeds and accidentally catching the occasional plant. This looks like an outright massacre. Fiona H

…and Food Caddy. However……
![]() |
IMPORTANT MESSAGE – waste & recycling collectionsWe’re acutely conscious that bin collections in some parts of the Dales have not been happening to schedule in recent weeks – and we have demanded that our waste and recycling contractor, Serco, produces a workable catch-up plan no later than first thing tomorrow. There are some mitigating circumstances – a national shortage of HGV drivers is impacting not only on Serco locally but also on collection services provided by many other local authorities. However, we will not allow the current situation to continue and will take legal action if necessary to ensure your collections happen as contractually agreed by ourselves and Serco. It is likely that Serco’s catch-up plan will involve weekend working and we will post more information on all our communications channels as soon as we have clarity. We are obviously taking a lot of calls about missed waste collections right now, which we completely understand, but if you could please hold off until we have a catch-up plan to communicate, that would be much appreciated. Thank you – and our sincere apologies. |

The Carnival and Recreation Committee are keen to carry on the tradition of a BBQ at the legion after the Treasure Hunt on Wakes Sunday, serving from 7.30pm, however we have hit two major stumbling blocks!! Firstly the legion BBQ is broken and secondly we have no cooks! We are therefore asking for anyone who has a BBQ they are willing to loan for the evening and even better willing to cook please let me know. The Committee will sort out all the food and be on hand to help with taking money and so on. The funds raised are an essential part of keeping Wakes and other Village events happening so fingers crossed there is a BBQ fairy out there. If you can help either tell Karen W or email me lucywigley@googlemail.com.
Thanks a million

Did anyone see a delivery van hit the side of Barn Cottage, Creamery Lane this morning (Weds 26th) sometime between 9am and 12 noon.
They’ve damaged one of my roof tiles and thrown a large piece of foam up my drive. No note or details left.

The Carnival and Recreation Committee, Odd Fellows, Legion and Sycamore have been working behind the scenes to try and put the Wakes 21 Programme together. We have tried to focus on activities which can go ahead with the restrictions currently in place, however as we all know these may change and therefore the programme may change as well. We will keep you upto date as best we can. Hopefully though the sun will return and we will all be able to enjoy Wakes in a way you are comfortable with. Any questions please email lucywigley@googlemail.com
