What a fantastic Wakes Week. A big thank you to the Carnival & Recreation Committee, the Oddfellows, the Legion, the Sycamore and everyone who works so hard every year to make it such a success. (And the weather was OK too!)

The team here at parwich.org would like to extend our sympathy to Carol, Paul, Wayne and all Phil’s family. He leaves a large gap in the village and in the local farming community.

His funeral is at St. Peter’s Church, Parwich

Children’s Film Night / Traditional Race Night.

The Children’s Film Night will be at 6.30 pm in the Memorial Hall.
Showing this year will be the live action/computer animated story: LIFE OF PI.
Free Admission, Refreshments.

This year sees the return of our popular and unique Traditional Race Night at 8.30 pm in the British Legion.
With all the old favourites:

Ferret Races
Our special horse races, including the “Selling” Handicap
The new “Escalado 5 Furlong Race”

What’s On at Wakes Week: Sunday

11.00 am – The Campsite “Songs of Praise Service”.
This year’s service will be held on the Campsite on Parson’s Croft. It will be led again this year by Rev. Andy Larkin. It is a popular event which brings together villagers, visitors, and our camping friends from Notts DA. The Service is followed by an opportunity to sit and chat, with tea and coffee provided by the campers.

12.00 noon – Fun and Games with the Campers.
Tug o’War and Volleyball are regulars at this friendly (but fiercely contested) sporting extravaganza, before we move on to more unusual competitions to test the skills of the participants.

6.00 pm – Treasure Hunts around the Village.
Assemble on the Green for a 6.00 pm start (even if it rains – and it usually does!)
For many years Pippa Sillitoe set our Junior Treasure Hunt for the under 14s. Pippa has now left the village and this year the questions have been set by Sharon Rankin. The Village Treasure Hunt for the over 13s has been set by Val Stevenson and Fiona Hadfield.

8.00 pm – Wakes BBQ at the Legion.
A chance to mull over the questions and decide just where you went wrong!
Sausages & pork burgers provided by Paul Dickinson.

We have received the following in relation to the Legion:

A “very big” thank you to David S, Ian and Sandra, Cheryl and Bob, Ed and Bert, Alison and Shaun, Lucy B, Danni and Lee, Phil K, Esther, Anthony F and Rob and Emma, for helping to undertake a “Groundforce” style makeover of the British Legion garden and yard area. All of you did an absolute sterling job and it is very much appreciated.

Thanks to Emma, Rob and Lucy for reaching gastronomic delights with the amazing BBQ which they prepared for all the team. Thanks also to Anthony for providing the trailer to remove all the debris..
